Set an FPS Limit - Trust Me.
My wife's laptop was cranking it's CPU to 100c and I spent hours trying to figure it out, updating drivers, ran the cooling plate at max, couldn't drive the temps down under 95c
100% load. It's a high end gaming laptop that has hardware well beyond the minimum req. So I just couldn't put my finger on it. But these temps were dangerous.

We'd known it was running hard playing Hogwarts but I didn't think anything of it until I checked it.

MAKE SURE: You set an FPS limiter under your graphics

I don't know why I didn't think about it, because I had done it on my desktop, but her laptop was trying to crank out like 220fps and was literally OCing her hardware to achieve it. The moment I locked it to 60fps, it freed up a ton of usage, temps dropped to 70c. But most notable, was that she reported better performance, my suspicion is that it was bottlenecking itself when it was hitting temp limiters.

This may also be the reason others are receiving stuttering and poor performance, due to hardware limiters, such as temp controllers and limiters forcing your hardware to bottleneck, while actually trying to achieve the best performance.

or simply dont play on laptop with such a bad cooling, in that case it would be better if you just undervolted the cpu/gpu

either you repaste or undervolt it.

I play on a gaming laptop, but have the game tweaked anyway for better performance. I think it's set to 60 fps in the game itself because of my settings. I couldn't be bothered to change it and will probably be less bothered to change now that I read this post. lol So thanks for the tip mate. Much appreciated. Glad you and your wife got her heating issues all sorted out.:steamhappy:

What are the Laptop specs and model, some Laptop are know for bad cooling problems, mine doesn't have any problems with this game, it could be Hardware related

I mean admittedly I did reseat the CPU after that, but point being....I don't need to melt a computer for 220 fps lol

Bad advise on all counts.

Sounds like the OP is the one with the common sense here.

This advice is universal

You reseated the CPU...for...heat issues....which occurred after playing a brand new game?

I'm gonna say let someone else do the troubleshooting next time because the sequence of action you took is bizarre

this is gonna sound crazy….. but The laptop is working as intended 95 is before thermal throttling (on most laptops) it’s NOT DANGEROUS at all

Your hardware will keep itself from burning up

Higher end gaming laptops are known for getting really hot it’s normal though

Lol. right, well although I appreciate your unsolicited technical expertise and advice.
You're making a lot of assumptions based on information you do not have on hand.

It's had abnormally high heats before, but that was an all time high, so it was a simple solution. Reseating a CPU isn't hard work and takes all over 15 minutes, if it saves me days of burning out the laptop and going through that wigamaroll (although I'll never let her buy a laptop again). then so be it.

Using V-sync to lock it at the monitor or tv's Hz, like my smart tv is 60hz, for me, 60fps is smooth enough, i don't need 120fps, i have never played a game without v-sync or G-sync on.
