The main mechanic you want to get accustomed to is Protego animation canceling. You cannot use your parry when already parrying, so don't always go for the follow up. Once you get familiar with this the fight becomes really easy.
Unless you play it on hard, where Stupefy won't break the shield.
It's definitely possible to solo on hard, but hard requires skill.

I would know I only play on hard.
The trick I've found to fighting multiple opponents in Hogwarts is to tap rather than hold Protego. This is because for some reason, holding Protego to cast Stupify can make some of the warning markers for incoming attacks disappear. I don't know if this is a bug or intended, but it can make Stupify a hidden death trap when facing 3+ enemies.
If I tapped Protego, I could easily block 4-5 consecutive attacks. But if I held Protego to cast stupify, I'd sometimes not get a warning and be sidelined by an 'invisible' attack.
Positioning isn't that important in Hogwarts combat as it is in other games, and thinking about it can distract you from the three main mechanics, which are
* Blocking yellow attacks.
* Dodging red attacks
* Dodging AoE effects
I spend most of the combats looking at my character's head or feet. I only spend a small time looking at the actual enemy, and I only move around if I want to feel fancy.
Focus on those 3, and you can solo the whole population of bandit camps with ease all at once. If you get hit, it usually means you got distracted and weren't focused on those 3.
I never mentioned perfect parry. I only said that Stupefy doesn't break the shield.
