Should I have held back on the Broom Racing?
Starting to figure out a bit late that there are a lot of things I probably should have known BEFORE rampaging about and doing whatever was in front of me at any given time...
I've already learnt that opening all the chests in sight at an early level was a moderately bad idea, since all the loot I get before level 40 is steaming garbage in a few levels and enemies don't drop legendary loot...

BUT ANYWAY... now I've got another issue.

Just finished the second Broom Race. Much like the first I went all out and absolutely wrecked the stupid Slytherin girl... BUT much like the first race, when I look at the leaderboard, I'm in 2nd place and there is some "Ruby Wiel" in first place. Like the gap between my time and 3rd place is massive (about 20 seconds), yet somehow Ruby Wiel managed to beat my best time by under a second... AGAIN.
SO... I'm starting to wonder whether this is like the swoop bike races from Knights of the Old Republic. i.e. That no matter what time I get on my first try, Ruby Wiel will always have done better. And that there will probably be some extra quest ages later to redo all these damned races just to beat whoever the hell this is.

Am I right?
Should I have held back?

I only did the races once. Only when i had to for the side quest to unlock upgrades for the broom. Never bothered with them after that. If I remember later, I will look and see if she is ahead of me again, but I honestly don't care. I got the achievement for beating her times on all 3 time trails.

You don't have to redo the races.
You'll get a broom upgrade after doing the first, the 2nd and after the 3rd... I never even looked at the race leaderboards after completing the quests.

well lots of chests are hidden behind level 2 and level 3 locks so that alone holds you back from opening all the chests early.

No, Ruby's just got a crazy time, and you're supposed to come back after getting the next broom upgrade to beat the time. On the first course, Ruby is just about beatable without the first upgrade (I beat her with 0.05 seconds) but for the others, you want to get the broom upgrade, then come back, if you care about having the top score.

i beat all her records by 25-40 seconds. Not sure why you are having trouble.

Probably because I attempted the first one with no upgrades and the second one with one upgrade.
And if you managed to beat her times by that much with those levels of broom upgrade yourself then you are most definitely cheating and I'd like to know how you did it.

No I beat it quite comfortably as well, you know you can speed up by 'sprinting' on the broom right?

Yes. I know there is a "go forward", a "go forward fast" and a "go forward even faster based on a yellow boost bar". I went through all the hoops and all the yellow boost bubbles, cut the angles tight, made no mistakes, and still came in second to Ruby Wiel both times.

Wait to get fully upgraded and come back then if you must. Honestly I wasn't even aware there was a second round to the time trials.

Edit:

Just re-ran all the trials with level 3 broom upgrade. Beat Ruby's time by about 12 seconds on 1st and 2nd trial, and about 6 seconds on the third. Definitely didn't fly perfectly, missed a few speed orbs on the second and even more on the third.

Note that you get nothing for doing this.

Ruby or Imelda? You aint breaking Ruby's time by 25-40 secs. Especially with no Broom upgrades.
