Arachnophobia mode
Is there some arachnophobia mode? I didn't find it. It seems to me strange, that this game has a great accessibility settings, but no basic arachnophobia mode (which I always use in lower-end, cheaper or older games...) I am still at the beginning but already had 3 fights with spiders and it seems to me, they are everywhere in the forest and they will be the whole game. Not cool.

There's no arachnophobia mode ingame, but there is a mod on nexus that turns them into cubes.

Yeah, I'm sure it breaks immersion pretty harshly, but my gf just pretended they were enchanted sentient shipping crates attacking her.

Better question: who gives a ♥♥♥♥? Being able to customize your experience is just one of the many great things about PC gaming.

It's just a 3D model made out of pixels. I do not understand why people make such a fuss over 1's and 0's. It make sense in real life, but a game of all places where they literally can't do anything to you?

I get you fearing them since I'm a little bit jumpy with them myself, but I know there's a big difference between video game ones and real life versions. It's like you people somehow can't distinguish between the two.

Well, as someone else said...

Seems silly to have a fear of a video game pixel. I can kinda understand it in your daily life. But in a game?

You might want to look up the definition of phobia

I got an absolute jump scare in one dungeon when opening a box when Acromantula flashed in front of a hole in the wall with accompanying music.

I know the dungeon you're referring to, a mission for a little friend. The only time I jumped while playing Hogwarts.

Mind you it's not as bad as when playing Skyrim. I rushed into large opening in a dungeon and have a giant spider land on me...many swear words were spoken that day.
I'm kinda torn about this, but ultimately leaning towards the rational "Who cares, it's optional and noone forces anyone to enable a phobia-mode or anything". It's the same as with colourblind-modes. Don't need it - alright, scroll past it.

I think the only thing that kinda tilts me towards the opposite direction of this is the phrasing of the OP; "[...]they are everywhere in the forest and they will be the whole game. Not cool." .... like really, we knew that the forbidden forest was definitely gonna have spiders and they complain with "not cool", which honestly just sounds whiny and entitled to me (read: my own feels about this, not how OP might actually mean it) :DSTghost: (though I will say, some more enemy variety outside of the forbidden forest would've also been nice...)

For anyone not getting arachnophobia, since it's just pixels: I got arachnophobia myself to a great degree and it's utterly frustrating. Try to imagine seeing a tiny spider and hyperventilating over it, even though you know it's totally harmless and you can crush it with a finger. And yet you can not control your body and mind and you get even more upset over that fact. --- depending on the severity of the phobia, this can extend to fictional stuff too. Depends also on what upsets you about spiders (which can be hard to pinpoint). It can be the jittery movement, the eyes, not being able to predict their moves, etc. - or just the general appearance.

I used to not have too much regard for other people's phobias either, until I met a friend who had the same issue as me - but with mice and I love mice! They're adorable, harmless floofs. But that guy once nearly fainted when we played a prank on him by putting a fist on his shoulder in the middle of the street while walking and said "oh sh*t, A MOUSE!". Obviously, how could there ever be a mouse? But the fear just basically negates all logic in that moment. That kinda made my brain *click*

I always enjoy the armchair psychologists that crop up around this subject. "Just stop being a ♥♥♥♥♥" is the general response which is equivalent to telling a depressed person to "just cheer up" or "Look on the bright side." How about if you have nothing to contribute to the person's question you just stfu and not say anything?

"Nobody's forcing you to play it" OK nobody is forcing you to read or reply to this. Also makes no sense for people to have any beef against someone asking to include an option because again, nobody is forcing YOU to have the option turned on if you don't want it.

Why would anyone cater to someone with an irrational fear?

Never seen a game with Arachnaphobia mode except for Grounded, let's not act like that is a common thing.

Nothing in this game scared me in the slightest. But this genuinely startled me too.

You not gonna overcome this fear if you gonna avoid it
That's not how psychology works. Not all phobias can be overcome through exposure.

Some people have been conditioned to believe that if someone else gets something they want, they themselves "lose", even if it's something wholly optional like a setting. They see life as a zero-sum game.

Phobias aren't just basic fears my dude. And the least manly thing you can do is worry about others wanting to avoid things that cause them distress.
