extremely slow patching process?
so game is installed on a pci-e 4 ssd that is 2800MB write and 3300MB read speed but it only patches about 3-4MB/s

anyone else has the same issue?

It won't even download for me, it finishes patching and then just says downloading and the timer goes up indefinitely

i got a m.2 ssd and if i remember correctly, it took about 10 minutes to patch... not really sure why it took s long to patch 300MB files.... but again, it's sorting out 30GB worth of files...

i originally thought steam was frozen while patching, good thing i take a closer look.

because it rewrites one of the mainfiles, thats why. its easier to rewrite it and writing the 347mb part into it then downloading the whole thing again.
i mean, if you want can you download the 34gb instead, works too.

I checked my performance tab in task manager and found it was downloading and patching entirely on one of my big storage HDDs, instead of the very fast SSD I have the game installed on. Even with 300 GB free.
So I removed the drive in question from my steam libraries temporarily in the settings- and got "drive error"

So now I'm just downloading the game for the 3rd time, still faster than ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ patching.

Why we can't prioritize a drive for steam to cache files on after almost 20 years is a mystery to me.

That's just every unreal engine game. Nothing to worry about.

and then it downloads the patches and ya sit anyways there rewriting the 34gb file =D.

Took a few seconds

It's slow if you have multiple drives in your system especially with traditional HDD even you installed the game on SSD.

i play the game on a HDD (granted, its one of the fastest you can get) and according to someone here was my HDD faster then their SSD xD.
they took 10 min while i was just sitting about 3 minutes there.

i went to double check and you were kinda right.

game is downloaded to wherever your steam is set to/default library. and since i was copying my previous hdd, it was busy 100%.

moved steam back to my ssd and voila!

Mine is doing the same thing. I have only 2 M2 Gen 3 SSDs with one being dedicated to my steam games. The patching takes forever. I have a brand new powerful machine with 32 GB of DDR5 only super fast M2 drives and a powerful CPU. There is something messed up with the way they do their downloads.
