what is the breeding good for and what do the mythical creatures with the stars bring me?

The starred creatures have unique features, like albinism or unusual coloring. I think breeding them offers unique offspring. (A starred white Fwooper I bred with a pink one produced a golden colored offspring, for example.)
I sold some to the beast vendor, but strangely the unique animals aren't worth more than regular...

Nothing knowing they still sell for 120 gold

Starred beasts are just Shiny(like pokemon), rare coloration, no difference other than that. The offspring are sold at the beast shop in hogsmeade for 120g each. Breeding a shiny does not guarantee a shiny offspring but does increase the chance.
