Political-reason: To make people more aware that Trans-people are normal the way they are in our world.
Rather than thinking about how to put actually positive representation into their games, they just shoehorn in anything they can in attempt to appear inclusive.
With that logic, why are there any unattractive wizards/witches at all? Surely all of them should just use magic to look like supermodels?
Could it be that some people are not as shallow as you and being the correct gender is what matters to them. Looking pretty for you isn't a concern.
The irony is, that people argue with that people should be integrated and accepted as normal in our society. Yet they always turn on spotlight and try to make games silly, where it got pointed out again.
However I do not feel like it has been bad in HL, as they did not make it a big thing, but I also could understand if people are irritated, that a trans person in game does not try to get as feminine as possible, if there is magic involved, as I also thought that nearly all trans people want to be as close as possible to the desired gender and would even try to get it to a point where you cannot tell anymore if it is a born woman.
I kind of doubt they would prefer people constantly questioning their gender. That seems like it would be pretty annoying to deal with, especially when you could use magic to not have to deal with it.
Sirona does look and sound like a woman.
They may not look and sound like your ideal of a perfect woman, but that isn't really their problem.
