Turn off white outline? how?
i've tried every setting in the game, i know it's not technically a big deal but i have autism and certain things bother me 10,000x more than is reasonable for what it's worth. this particularly is like nails on chalkboard and i saw online that the devs confirmed that there is a way to turn it off in the settings. i've been tweaking the settings for 45 minutes and i'm pulling my hair out, someone please tell me because i looked on 4 different websites and every single one said "it's simple... just turn them off in the settings!" no ♥♥♥♥ sherlock, why bother making an entire internet page to give so little information? clickbait =.=

if you don't know what i'm talking about i'm referring to the white outlines that appear around everything you can interact with, ruining the immersion. what an eyesore...

I wouldn't have guessed that either, since to me "enemy/target info" would be health bars, buffs, debuffs, etc... not targeting outlines.

Now, if only there were a way to turn off your character's running "hint" commentary that spoils things for you if you take more than 3 seconds to do things...

If you are in the room of requirement also just switch to a spell set that doesn't have any summoning spells for furniture in it.
IcedFREELANCER Feb 16, 2023 @ 2:02pm
Navigate to
C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Open GameUserSettings.ini file with Notepad

Change these values to FALSE at your own discretion:

ShowTargetHighlights=True
ShowTargetName=True
ShowHudBeacons=True
ShowNotificationElements=True
ShowXPElements=True
ShowTargetElements=True
ShowEnemyDamageElements=True

You can easily guess which is which depending on a setting name

This. Oh, yes, please! It ruins the fun of figuring things out for yourself way too often.

there isn't, despite, as you say, a thousand websites telling you there is. There kinda sorta is a workaround, and I'm not saying it's practical, but I use it as a 'photo mode' when taking pics of my beasts etc, and it may be of value if it really bothers you that much....

If (obviously after you've bought them with talent points) you keep one of your spell sets empty and switch to it, you don't see the outlines, cuz you've nothing selected to target anything.

edit: oh wow. all these answers in the time it took me to type that. Ignore. lol

I think this just removes the enemy name/health bar, right? I believe it still shows the white outline when targeting.

Has anyone tried this yet? Out of this list, it looks like it would just be ShowTargetHighlights needing to be set to false.

Doesn't change anything. Interactable items and enemies are still highlighted white.

Figures. I saw someone post a mod in Nexus to remove this outline, but it involved downloading weird ReShade presets that would remove the outline but introduce two new issues in its place.

and I didn't say you visited a thousand, but it's such a commonly regurgitated falsehood copy pasted across the web that google even has a quick answer box stating the same thing.

I know an TEMPORARY solution if you are interested removing that annoying white outlines from enemies/targets/objects.

Just go to: C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\ and edit GameUserSettings.ini

Find: UseMinimalHud=False and change it to True like this => UseMinimalHud=True

Now enter the game, go to your game options and on HUD options toggle ON/OFF anything doesn´t matter what option.

Now that white outlines should be DISABLE...but temporary...
Because when you fast travel, load saved game or die, that lines would appear again, you must go again on HUD options and toggle ON/OFF any option for white outlines stay again DISABLE.

I know this is boring but its the only way without MOD that fix this. Hope this help anyone.

Cheers!

Found the way to turn the outline off over at nexus mods.

This is basically what it says:

Go to "C:\Users\YOURCOMPUTERNAME\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\ WindowsNoEditor"

Then find GameUserSettings.ini

Inside look for "ShowTargetHighlights=True

Now erase the entire line and replace with this:

[/script/engine.gameusersettings]
ShowTargetHighlights=False

Save.

Then set it to ReadOnly.

unfortunately it's not permanent. When you load the game you need to toggle any setting about the hud (e.g. minimap on then off is enough) and the white halo will be gone. It resets every time you load the save but just repeat the process.

I tried it and it works. Kind of sucks you have do it every time you load but I rather do this than have that horrible outline.

Hope this helps.
