Yeah the problem with that Unreal Engine 4 shader compilation business is that no amount of horsepower you throw at it solves the issue. Digital Foundry ran Gotham Knights on a 13900K+4090 and it still hitched and stuttered. I really hope UE5 doesn't inherit those problems
Strange, the game was very stuttery for me but I literally just upgraded my 2700x to a 5800x3d and the game is now buttery smooth now. (GPU = 2070 Super)
Seriously, Hogwarts and Hogsmead was annoying the hell out of me with how choppy it was, but the 5800x3d has fixed all my issues.
Full Ack. Disabled RT which is a huge help, have set game settings to medium or high on current nvidia driver. Updated DLSS. While this was a huge improvement every now and again usually during combat I got the stutter and then game goes into slow motion. Sometimes hitting ESC and going in/out of the menu helps but not always. For what its worth here my specs from dxdiag:
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Processor: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X 24-Core Processor (48 CPUs), ~3.8GHz
Memory: 65536MB RAM
System DPI Setting: 144 DPI
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
Current Mode: 3840 x 2160 (32 bit) (144Hz)
Hooked up to a 120Hz enabled screen you get the option of a 40 fps balanced mode. The relief of being freed from that stutter was 100% worth it...
Yes, the fidelity + ray tracing mode is 30 fps at what looks like an upscaled 1080P, balanced is crisper looking and runs at 40 fps locked. You can unlock the framerate but it never quite reaches the 48 fps threshold for VRR so you're better off locking it at 40 fps.
You DO need a 120Hz screen for the balanced mode or it won't show up as an option.
Another interesting thing is I have a coworker that has the game on Series X. He complained of stutter as well. For now it really does look like the PS5 version is the most stable version at the moment.
