Sell everything you're not wearing, there's no reason to keep multiple sets.
All appearances are saved and there's barely any challenge even on hard mode.
Edit: Another concern I have is the huge difference in difficulty. I was finding Normal mode to be far too punishing, especially on the first boss fight with the Pensieve Colossus kept getting knocked off the edge of the platform insta-deaths. I restarted on Easy difficulty and can already see that the troll fight and the students duels in the Clockwork Tower were stupidly easier not even requiring any use of wiggenweld potions. I am concerned Normal is too punishing and Easy is well...too easy.
Merlin Trials can up it to 40 slots overall, gaining 4 slots per challenge level. It is a struggle to not fill them up at the beginning though.
I am unsure what there is not to like about the cosmetic system. It seems like all like pieces of gear for a specific slot have the same stat modifier so there is no need to keep a lesser item since you can just change the appearance to it if you like the look.
Then once you get the loom in the Room of Requirement it is pretty simple to upgrade items and even change their traits.
Yeah the glasses most of them anyways are just hideous (I'm lookin' at you dragon eye glasses and newt goggle glasses).
