Game refuses to use my entire GPU
Hello,

when i play Hogwarts Legacy on my 4090 the game stays around 50 to 60% usage instead of giving me more FPS and moving to 95 ot 99%. It does not even change when i activate or deactivate ray tracing its always the same % just with less fps if i use ray tracing.

My CPU is chilling at max 25% with the highest core usage of 58% so not bottlenecked by the CPU. The strange thing is in menu it uses 99% of the GPU but ingame it does not.

Also changing graphic setting does not change how much gpu is used at all. I can go from lowest to highest and it will always use 55% of the GPU at my testing spot. Never less never more only the fps change. Even enabling ray tracing does not change anything besides lowering fps ofc.

Any ideas? I am not bottlenecked by anything and every other game i play works perfectly fine for example DOOM Eternal, Overwatch 2, Counter Strike, Valorant, Total War Warhammer 3.

I updated my driver to the newest and it did not change anything. Tried an even older driver and its exactly the same usage.

My PC specs:

4090

i7 13700k (most stays at 25%)

32 GB Ram

2 TB SSD from western digital

Its just how it is. Engine limitations i guess. I have almost same specs and have the same utilization as you.

I am almost positive that the game never disables DLSS. I notice the artifacting that DLSS causes even when it is allegedly disabled.

That and the game might cap FPS.

Well guess what?
Patch notes on PC from the last patch:
Upscalers
Enable frame generation while DLSS is disabled.

The game does not seem to cap fps. In Settings there is uncapped version and cap with up to 360 fps. I do not reach that fps and also do not always have the same FPS it varies by a lot but the game never utilizes the gpu or cpu fully.

In Menues however the game uses 99% of my gpu and give a lot of fps but in game it never uses all of my gpu its very strange.

For me its the other way around. The game wont use my 13900K. Its always at only 4-5% which is almost idle.

I had the same issue with my 3090, turning off dlss solved it for me. The game looks and runs much better now.

Turn off DLSS or anything like it. You don't need it on a 4090 unless you wanna play at 8k. For the AA use DLAA. If your game drops FPS heavily put texture quality to low or medium.

Material quality is what texture is in other games. Texture quality is for how many textures there are off screen. Though modern GPU's are fast enough to where you wont see the textures loading back in.

Bruh my gpu literally says 2% utilisation dunno what is going on there

13900K is a beast...

What resolution are you using? hopefully 4k.. anything else will mean bottlenecking galore. If you use 1080p you basically bought a GPU that you can´t use properly

I doubt anyone that would splurge on a 4090 would play at 1080p, I play @5K w/ 3090

I also use a 4090 and have the same thing. In this case, the game engine is the bottleneck.

Same for me

Game was finally running perfectly with a few tweaks, and now game is back to it's garbage fps drops and such.

Is there any option to revert an update ?

I have a Ryzen 7 5800X and it never goes above 4-5% CPU usage in Hogwarts Legacy. My 3080 has the same issue, it's never goes beyond 60-65% even with RT on. My screen resolution is 3440x1440, so it's not a bottleneck either.
