I've no idea if the number on the end is the same for everyone, or some random number for the save slot. So that might vary for you.
Also, assuming you haven't disabled Steam Cloud, then you can find any synced save files here:
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=990080
Although again, it depends on if the game, or Steam have messed up there as well.
Assuming there are any files there, you should be able to download the newest *.sav and drop them into the above save folder manually.
You can actually see the path, including the number, in the File Name part on Steam Cloud,
Example: 'Hogwarts Legacy/Saved/SaveGames/10320548/HL-00-14.sav'
Hopefully the number, identifies the save slot, so you can compare with the newly created profile, and pick the other one. Assuming it exists of course!
Use this to view everything you have in Steam Cloud, can be useful sometimes:

Hi, thanks for the response. I tried what you said, but I seem to have .SAV files with the internet explorer icon, so I probably messed that up earlier today. I checked the steam cloud saves, but there are none for Hogwarts Legacy, even though my other games are saved there. I'll probably just restart the game in the summer as I'm a bit down because of this now.
Just on the IE icon. Windows is rather dumb with icons. By default (at least in Win 10), .sav files are not associated with any application. So they get a blank icon and if you try to open by double clicking, you'll be asked to pick an application.
If at any time you, or someone on the PC, opened a .sav file with say IE for some reason in the past, and the always-open was ticked, which is the default. That file is now associated with IE from that point onwards, and the blank icon gets replaced with the IE icon instead.
It doesn't actually mean it's an actual IE file though, and won't impact the use of those files by other applications, such as a game.
The only impact it does have, is when you double click on the file, as that opens the default app, which somehow you've ended up with IE.
Thank you! I didn't know that.
I also found a youtube guide with the step to restore a save, but it doesn't work with my game. I'll try to remove it, install it again an place the saves in the new folder.
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I managed to get my files back. I followed a youtube guide that said to reload the last manual save when you first get handed the controls in the game. For me, it turned out to be the last autosave that needed to be loaded in, but all is well now.
