Worst, dodge design, ever.
Inform me of how I'm supposed to dodge something when I'm MID DODGE... If I DODGE a troll slam... with apparate... how does the same troll manage to teleport next to me and smack me? Or if I dodge 3 times to get away from enemies... protego a spell as I come out of dodge, dodge again, and the spell-block animation from another enemy goes almost instantly from when I start dodge to end doge and am LITERALLY UNABLE TO DODGE OR PROTEGO SINCE IM MID DODGE OR PROTEGO?!?!?!? It's actually garbage... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I've never been more infuriated at a games BLOCK mechanic more than I have been at this one.

HOW DOES A TROLL TELEPORT NEXT TO ME?!?!?!?!?!?? I DON'T GET IT?!?!?!?

That is odd, I have been smashed mid roll and taken ZERO damage. i would restart the game, maybe a glitch.

Yeah I think it's a hard mode thing, I noticed this a few times too. Try tapping dodge instead of using apparate on the trolls. It's 2 dodges then a counter opportunity.

The troll teleporting is irrelevant, when there's an attack incoming, dodgeable or blockable, you have to press dodge/block at the right time to dodge or block it, use crowd control spells to keep enemies disabled so there's not a 100 attacks every second if you can't dodge/block as many, this really is a "git gud" problem.

One thing I've noticed is you have to also dodge in the right direction. A troll slamming down with an overhead hit is a very long range hit (and yes, they always seem teleport so you're at the very base of his hit) so if you roll backwards for example, you're still rolling within the range of the hit, I seem to get hit in these situations. Same thing if the troll is charging you, as you might expect, jumping backwards at someone charging you won't really help, it makes sense. I've never been hit by either of those attacks when dodging to the side though (I'm also playing on hard)

The timing is important; if you consider the rhythm of a troll smashing their club several times in a row as individual "ticks", then a normal dodge takes 1 tick, but a blink dodge (where you hold the button down to teleport) seems to take 1.5 ticks. This means you won't have recovered yet to be able to dodge the second attack.

Short dodges when they throw multiple quick attacks, long dodges when they throw single large/heavy attacks.

I'm playing on Hard to and the teleporting melee attacks really can be overwhelming. Basically don't even look at the enemy and try to gauge distance; just watch for that little red indicator over your head and press the dodge button when you see it. Never assume you're safe from a melee attack just because the enemy is 2 miles away from you.

The worst thing is that the game input reads you to the point where it could be considered abusive. With the default controls you have to pull your finger away from the dodge button to cast an ability, but every time you cast an ability the enemy attacks immediately with like a .5 second window for you to transition back to the dodge button. Fighting lots of melee enemies at once can be really frustrating.

Of course the fact that you can carry and spam an insane amount of health potions with 0 animation lock for using them is what makes the game easy regardless.

Currently plaything through the Mass Effect series
I had this issue in the 2nd game also, but its more profound in the 3rd game
Jump, Interact, Run, Hiding, Dodging AND leaping over barricades are ALL done with the space button, that's 5 crucial actions bound to 1 button and you can not rebind these actions individually.

You think the dodge in Hogwarts is frustrating? try running away to have your character crouch behind something in plain sight, or you try hide behind something and your character dodge rolls out into the open, you're trying to dodge roll and suddenly your character decides to jump over a wall...

I actually like the dodge from Hogwarts, though I agree the teleporting trolls are quite annoying but I went through the entire game barely using pretago and primarily just dodging everywhere, you've got to get used to the timing with the trolls, if you see them go for that attack pattern you gotta just keep dodging, it will miss you if you do like 2 or 3 dodges in a row, personally I like how far the dodge goes, how fast it is and the fact that you actually still have directional control whilst dodging, I thought it really sped up the pace of fights, looked great and was alot of fun, It's a nice change from your character just straight up doing the wrong things let me tell you.

basically my point is, this is far from the worst dodge design ever, and your issues seem to come from the enemies and not the dodge its self, which I can understand, I do agree, especially with the trolls, its weird, but it for sure is not the worst.

Second troll attack will always hit you if you use dodge teleport. It's clearly bugged because troll simply appears before you to smack you silly with that attack. Until it's patched you need to use the normal dodge roll instead when facing trolls.

Exactly. You can turn the camera around and actually watch the troll SLIDE ALONG THE GROUND AT WARP SPEED and smack you. This is far from intended and even farther from a 'git good' issue as most people are pointing at. Imagine being so brain-dead that you just regurgitate the previous comment because you have 0 input to add past being a douche.

Yeah, the swift talent and trolls don't go together, and yeah if you're swifting the troll "slide with you".
The only way to get away is either not having said talent or not using it.

That explains it. I was wondering why the trolls always seemed to teleport across entire areas.

I like how people are putting this on "Oh it's probably a hard thing" Buddy. There is no way in hell a troll just slide to the other side of an arena just to smack your head in. It's a bug, it's not supposed to do that, but It has intergrated targetting and it needs to be near you to activate it. Since it's just about 50% done, It will correct it position to you close.

The only way you can dodge this is by using the small tap of a dodge roll and one dodge roll again. The weapon will fly right by you, but atleast it won't hit you (somehow?)
