Are Robes mandatory?

Canonically speaking, I mean. Every NPC always wears them except for one out on the front lawn who looks so out of place. lol.

The game makes no comment whether or not you wear a "school uniform" in class or at the castle.

Kind of wish it would at least recognize that you aren't in dress code during the class periods though.

I didnt read the books, but from what I've been told, students are supposed to wear the robe and uniform, but from fifth year on you are allowed to wear clothing of choice under the robe.

Can anyone confirm? That's what I am curious about.

I know the GAME doesn't care. I'm asking about established canon lore. In the lore is the robe required per Hogwarts dress code?

If so does any robe count or must it be the basic house color robe?

At one point I was running around in my characters night clothes (unequipped everything), pretty sure they commented on that too

Since they didn't add a detention mechanic, it'd be pretty hard to enforce a uniform without it.
