How are people getting to max level?

I got my book at 90% and did all main and side quests. I never ran from fights and still only just hit level 38. Collectathon objectives don't give EXP after you finish their challenges, and I've done pretty much all of them. Do you really need to grind fights?

I see some people got max level but didn't do all quests or any 100% collectathon objectives based on their achievements. Did they cheat or something?

100% challenges
then you get lvl 40 at the end of the game.

Merlin challenges and field pages are fast leveling methods. Also, side quests and exploration. When you can "rescue" magical beasts, that is fast experience as well.

Are they supposed to give no EXP after a point? I completed all the challenges for merlin trials, but after that, they give no EXP. I still have 35 trials to go that don't count for challenges but no EXP dropped when I do them.

The only thing you get XP for is completing the stuff in your field guide. So to get to level 40 you basically have to do everything.

after completing challenges, there are no more exp for you.

Its a bug. Last night I was playing and got lvl 25 then stopped getting xp for a couple hours. Once I restarted the game and turned in a quest I began getting xp normal again.

I also ran into a luna moth that disappeared and I can’t 100% pages anymore. Super funnn.

It is based on the challenges. Once you finish the challenge limit, they stop giving experience. However, they are the fastest and easiest of the challenges to get that quick leveling. I am on my third and fourth play through doing just that.

I finished all challenges except I have 6 more ancient magic hotspots and I didn't do the ROR challenges. I guess I got a lot of work ahead of me.

It is just very easy running around casting infringo, confringo, levioso and accio, and getting to level 20+ before even needing to leave Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, into the open world.

Another great way to level, is to go to the farming spots and taking out the one shot foes, like wolves and spiders, and beginner poacher camps. It is quick and easy, but is more grinding.

My first play through was the only one that I was not level 30 by time I reached half way through the story.

whats the point of levels in this game? There doesnt seem to be any skills/perks to unlock.

I only hit 40 right after beating the last main story boss, then again I never worked towards leveling either, it just happened naturaly as I collected stuff, did missions and killed everyone that crossed my path.

You get more health, get better gear, unlock skill points and the number is higher.
