played for 1 hour - the most boring 1 hour of my life
Boring setpiece after setpiece
Once you get to Hogwarts there's not much to explore. I found just one puzzle on the bridge, and that's it. Even that old Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban game had Hogwarts be filled to the brim with secrets, hidden passages, and more. Also all rooms seem to be oversized for no reason. There's no tight corridors, tight rooms. It's all massive interconnected halls and massive rooms. I'm not at all surprised that the devs expect you to use fast travel to move around. Walking through these hallways is mind numbing, especially since there's zero interaction with other students. Old Harry Potter games made you learn Hogwarts, and unlock hidden passages to move around more efficiently. Here you just unlock fast travel points... no to mention there's no parkour secrets, or anything like that (the movement wouldn't even allow for it anyway).

https://youtu.be/d9qN5oQXR1c Just watch this video to see what I mean. These older Harry Potter games were stuffed with Hogwarts' secrets to uncover, to the point where some of them were few meters away from each other, and there were SECRETS inside of secret rooms like in original Doom (2:04 in the video for example). And they weren't marked with UI elements, which made them not so obvious. And those were KID'S GAMES!

I mean. You could make an argument that this method of handling secret rooms is utterly boring. Your choices are basically either cast spells at every conceivable object until you discover a secret, or look it up and find out where they all are just to go into a tiny room and collect some beans. And you're kidding yourself if you believe the castle in Hogwarts Legacy feels more lifeless than the one in Prisoner of Azkaban. The two aren't even comparable.

Within the first 20 minutes of playing Hogwarts there's literally a side quest to find.. A SECRET ROOM! Wherein you are given clues to find a specific painting in the castle where you cast a spell at a painting and find a tiny room with a box full of loot (much like the Prisoner of Azkaban game, but better because you're not just mindlessly casting at everything to find the secret. You're given actual clues). And not just beans, actual gear you can use. There are quests like this all over the game, in and outside of the castle. This is a much better way of handling secrets around Hogwarts imo. Side quests that allow you to go hunting for them rather than you just running around guessing at everything.

Play the game a little bit more. There are a lot of assumptions in your original post that are just not correct. While I do agree they could have done more to bring everything to life a bit more, including NPC interaction, I don't think there's any shortage of "cool stuff" to find around the game. You just have to actually play the game and find them.

Nah OP didn’t play the game. At most he probably watched some YouTube vids or someone playing on Twitch. He’s playing KCD in 2023 and I think it’s the most boring game to play in 1 hour. I loved that game, don’t get me wrong but it’s a bore feast in the beginning until you actually get a few levels and HL ain’t anything like that.

Also if someone were to play throughout the beginning the early tutorial would have already consumed at least 45 minutes (plus cinematics) before someone even reaches Hogwarts so I bet OP is just bs-ing.
I skipped few cutscenes before getting to the goblin bank.

1. If you skip all cutscenes just to get to the (very limited) roaming part of a game, you are proving your entire goal was to be judgemental.

2. Hogwarts is literally full of many secrets, interactable objects, paths and hidden collectibles. If you played only one hour, even with skipping cutscenes, you probably barely have any spells so you don't even know past how many puzzles you just skipped simply because you didn't have the requires spell yet, or didn't use Revelio well enough.

I am all for constructive criticism but saying hogwarts is empty compared to old Harry potter games is just false information

Did you find out how to get to the Bell Tower (without referring to the map, disable the compass and HUD tracker) and then find out on your own how to repair the bells there?

Were you able to enter the room with a door that's high above a wall with no obvious way to get there?

Did you find out how to get one of the Legendary Chest in one of the towers?

Have you seen the book and quill that decides the students that are admitted to Hogwarts?

That's only a few of a good list stuff you can uncover.
Nowhere in the books did it say that Hogwarts has random areas with bottomless pits, floating moving Super Mario-ish platforms, etc.

Well there are times I worry about some of the folks out there a seasoned gamer knows the first hour is spent getting the right haircut and hair colour and making sure the eyebrows blend in

And do what I did and immediately delete because you accidentally chose the wrong voice

Ooof. No wonder.

Anyway, I appreciate Hogwarts more because I disabled the minimap and HUD tracking icons. And don't use fast travel that often. I've managed to memorize how to get from point A to B on foot but I still have trouble remembering how to get to the Clock Tower. If I'm not mistaken there are only two paths that lead there -- from the Faculty area and the other from the DADA building.

The game does have a lot of secret locked rooms and passages, actually... I didn't get around to exploring most of them, honestly, because I was kind of exploration fatigued after exploring out in the open world through most of my playthrough. There are so many of them.

Maybe if the game wasn't open world and mostly focused on just Hogwarts itself, or if the world was just smaller and tightened up to just a few key locations in the outskirts like the forest, hogsmeade, etc, I would have spent more time poking around the castle itself and wanting to solving puzzles there. But as it is, it felt like a lot.

I don't think I'd have patience for no fast travel system at all in an modern open world game like this, that just sounds painful to me at this point. Older games didn't used to have such large maps and areas. You already have to walk to all these places on the map at least once, in order to unlock the fast travel points.

I just assumed OP had returned the game. Strange that he didn't bother to leave a review before he did, though, and instead decided to post on the forum like it's a review section.

We would still be able to see his playtime, even after refund

OP is just another obvious troll who is spouting nonsense that is blatantly untrue.

He ignores everything that directly counters his "argument," if you can call it that and continues on as if he is still somehow right in this topic.

ahahahahah
a side quest to find a "SECRET" room??? unreal handholding. That's not a SECRET in any meaning of the word.

My point exactly. They tried a mix between a classic HP game and an open world RPG, but either part is underwhelming here, leading to an overall mediocrity.

Nah, i think HL is way more fun than the Last AC released and other Ubisoft Open World games
Maybe bethesda would have done a better job, but their game quality is droping since Fallout New Vegas
There isn't much AAA studios that make outstanding Open Worlds, and that kinda sad
