“A thief in the night” side quest bug?

Hi all,

Trying to complete this side quest in irondale. Quest requires you to return at night and follow the trail of coins to find the thief. I found 3 small piles of coins (x1) coin each as I enter the town and the quest area, but I do not see anymore coins or any indication of where to go after picking up the 3rd pile of coins next to the merchant guy (guy who gives the quest).

I’ve tried searching the entire town and perimeter on foot and by broom, spamming revelio to see if any highlighted piles of coins pop up or if I can find the location I’m supposed to track, and even tried relaunching my game and doing a main quest before circling back. Nothing. Nada.

Anyone else having this issue or have any ideas for a work around?

there should be a long trail of coins across the bridge on the right side of the road going up into the hillside and then some

I repeatedly used Revelio to follow the long trail of coins, and it was very long. If you've lost it, just use Revelio and look for a lot of blue dot-like objects that seem to be forming a trail.

This is pretty much what you have to do. Keep spamming revelio and follow the trail from the guy's stall to your thief.

They glow bright blue when you use revelio, impossible to miss.

There are no coins is what I’m saying lol

There were three, and then the rest never spawned into the game or something. I’m spamming revelio all over and there are no coins anywhere near or around irondale

Thank you! This helped. There were no coins, but I followed these directions and fought some goblins up the hill. The coins are appearing now 😁

You just lost the track, 'cause revelio reveals a bunch of stuff around you and I find it confusing a lot of times.
It's ok, if you intend on starting a new game later on with another House, that would be the time to retry "A Thief in the Night". Stay focused just on the coins during retry.
That's what I'd do, but you can always reload a way previous save file or watch a walkthrough vid of someone doing it, I guess.
Saying anything more would be spoiling one of the best missions in the game.

The coins literally were not there. I could go back and forth from where the trail started and ended. Looked up someone else's walkthrough for the quest just to see and I had non of the coins leaving town, crossing the bridge, or going up the hill. Coin trail reappeared after goblin camp.

Hopefully just some weird issue with my game or pc. Found the thief easily, funny enough lol

just spam revelio the trail will stand out. its a trail round the hill the coins are so close together and in such a straight forward path there isnt a chance you will actually miss it

Well, I am so glad this thread exists.
The people saying there are coins, are very wrong. There are no coins.
I went up the hill, killed the goblins, came back down the hill, found a singular pile of coins in a bush outside of town, and only then did the other coins begin to spawn.
When the coins start spawning, it's almost literally impossible to miss them. If they're not spawning, they just aren't, and the people saying they're there when they're not are just gaslighting you.
If they're not spawning, they are DEFINITELY just not spawning, because they're almost impossible to miss when they ARE spawning.

So to recap for those who find this in the future as I just did:
- No, you're not going crazy. The coins just aren't spawning. You can't miss them when they do spawn.
- Follow the path out of town and over the bridge, then up the hill.
- Find and kill the goblins on the hill, then use Revelio.
- If the coins still aren't spawning, make your way back towards the town, using Revelio on the way.
- You may find a singular pile of coins, and picking it up will trigger the rest to spawn, as it did for me.
- If the coins still aren't spawning: there's a Niffler Den South-East of the Feldcroft Catacomb Floo Flame, which is the quest ofbective. You can follow the main road from the Floo Flame, and it'll be on the right side of the road. It has lanterns, so it should be relatively easy to spot.
