game crash after latest Nvidia driver update
has anyone else had this problem after the Nvidia driver update (v. 528.49)? I start up the game, get the warning screen about epilepsy etc. and then...nothing. Just the opening music playing and a black screen, and I have to close the program via task manager. I tried rolling back the drivers but windows won't let me to it (option is greyed out). I'd appreciate any suggestions or solutions... :(

Try launching the .exe directly without the Steam launcher. I had a similar issue with another game and it helped. Worth a try at least.

I'm assuming you did a system restart after the update?

I haven't had this issue. Updated yesterday and it's been fine.

This happened to me twice with recent Nvidia updates on B3. Reinstalling the driver fixed it both times.

Thanks for the suggestion, but nope. Didn't work. Same thing happened. :(

Yes, I did a clean install of the driver and restarted after it was done.

Well, after several driver re-installs & chatting with Nvidia tech support... their conclusion is to wait for the next driver update as they "have not optimized drivers" for Hogwarts Legacy. I hope if anyone else runs into this problem, this helps them (well, it won't help play the game for now, but at least we can have hope they'll fix it soon).

Hi, I found a solution for the problem: basically the drivers need to be rolled back to a previous version that worked with hogwarts legacy. I have found the instructions on Nvidia website for windows 7 but it is not that hard for windows 10 as well.

Click Start
Click Control Panel
Windows Vista: Click System and Maintenance and then System or simply System (in Classic view). Windows 7: Click System and Security and then System.
In the left pane, click Device Manager
Double-click on Display Adapters
Double-click on your NVIDIA GPU
Select the Driver Tab
Click on Roll Back Driver

The short version goes like this: click on start-> type "device manager" -> display adapters (it should show your graphics card model) ->right click on it -> properties -> roll back drivers. The screen will go dark as if you were updating the drivers and after they come back on, it should work. This worked for me.

Thanks, but that was the first thing I tried before I ever contacted Nvidia. I have a solution, now, though...it was posted in the Hogwarts Legacy Discussions.
If anyone else has this problem, it's the shader caches. You have to go into a folder in your C: drive called Program Data (it's typically a hidden file so you have to turn those on to see it) and in the Hogwarts Legacy folder, delete any files/folders that are shader caches. If this doesn't work for you, still...they have other suggestions in the Discussions for the game here on Steam

Download the Nvidia driver you want to install (Nvidia.com/drivers)

download DDU (display driver uninstaller) from techpowerup.

Disconnect from wifi or Ethernet (so Windows update doesn't automatically install old drivers)

Extract DDU into a folder
reboot into safe mode (hold shift and click restart).

Run DDU, select Nvidia GPU, clean then reboot.

Install the drivers

Reconnect to Internet.

This is always how you want to roll back or fix GPU driver issues.

Yes I also had issues with the newest driver crashing the game. Never had a single problem before. Just rolled them back. Can download old driver versions on Nvidias website.
