What is the actual point of the flying mount?
It's clunkier, harder to land, takes longer to mount and dismount, and it's max speed is slower than the brooms minimum. Also the "Press shift to toggle flight speed" seems to do absolutely nothing, or the mounts two speeds are "Slow" and "Slow" . Not to mention the misleading menu that makes it seem like there's 4 potential mounts when there's 1 in the game, 1 as dlc, and 1 as a preorder bonus (that's apparently just a reskin?).
I really thought we'd get to kidnap-I mean rescue more mounts since Highwing can be added to the Vivarium, but nope just the slowest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ birdhorse in existence and a stick that goes 20x faster. The number of baffling design choices in this game are really becoming apparent the more I play. What drunk lunatic okayed this?

Edit: Also, why does it look and sound so pained when I summon or dismiss it? It screams and its head gets bent backwards, why did they do this.

Edit 2: Finished the game, can confidentially say they actually did the ground mount right. Although it's slower than the broom or the hippogriff, it serves an actual purpose, being able to defend yourself while mounted. It has a drawback compared to other mounts but also a benefit to balance it, that's what the hippogriff is missing.

Oh man yeah I really don't get why I can land a broom on water but not the flying mounts. I've forgotten that so many times, flew out to some cave in the water, only to remember I need to fly back to shore, switch to my broom, and fly back just so I don't have to swim for an hour. Surely it's easier to dismount an animal in the water than a broom, especially when that mount can swim on its own.

So were a lot of things left out in this game, and the ones that weren't actually serve a gameplay mechanic that makes sense. In an otherwise great game, something this bad and nonsensical really stands out

I think the beast mounts would be fine if maybe they were slower but easier to manoveur or smth. I think they fly okay my biggest pet peeve and why I basically NEVER used them was that they refused to land in forrests and getting them to land in general is a huge struggle whilst landing and picking off with the broom is incredibly easy and convineant

Honesly it's over a decade since I saw any of the movies, but I can't remember a lot more iconinc things being left out, even on the PS2 era the Hippogriff took the role of the brooms in the games.
Sure the Griff sucks, but it should be worse than a maxed broom, but would be nice to be better than a basic broom.

Yeah i'm pretty disappointed in the Mounts too.
Bob Gnarly Feb 15, 2023 @ 4:27pm
Was wondering the same thing.

Especially once you upgrade your broom, you have no reason to ever use them except for aesthetics.

I love the way it looks but that's about it. The broom, to me, is so much easier to get on and off.

Just want to point out that the fourth mount slot does come into play, but it's so late in the game that they should have just omitted it. It's the third or fourth main quest from the end-game.
Even worse, the fourth mount is non-flying, difficult to control, and has a stamina bar. It feels like it's from a totally different game.
I just finished the game and I actually disagree with you. It's not meant as a transportation mechanic, meant for combat. Someone else mentioned the difference between a motorcycle and a car but this is like a tank and a bicycle. I actually didn't have a hard time controlling it and the stamina is just for the charge. I genuinely really like it
Also it doesn't use the fourth slot, so I still don't know what that one is for. Maybe future DLC who knows

Sure the Griff sucks, but it should be worse than a maxed broom, but would be nice to be better than a basic broom.
I also haven't seen them for a while but there's things I remember them doing in the movies that aren't in the game, but they're all about as minor as the hippogriffs were.
And that's all I'm saying, the maxed out broom should be the fastest because it's the last thing you get and it costs 7500 gold, but you get the hippogriff soon after the first broom upgrade (or just before I can't remember) and it's already about the same speed or slower. I'm talking purely from a mechanical standpoint, purely game progression, it makes no sense to give a slower option with no other upsides beyond subjective looks. Give it to us before the broom, make it just a little bit faster, or give it something over the broom like infinite boost (noticeable difference from the base speed instead of the "I can't tell if it's on" flight modes) or letting you cast while mounted.
Literally, just letting us cast from the mount would've invalidated this entire post. Just one thing over the broom and it makes sense as an upgrade.

I put in a mod request on nexus for improved flying mounts, hope it gains traction

They could have solved this problem my making them occupy the same slot, but by making them two different things you naturally force us to compare them to each other.
