What is the actual point of the flying mount?

It's clunkier, harder to land, takes longer to mount and dismount, and it's max speed is slower than the brooms minimum. Also the "Press shift to toggle flight speed" seems to do absolutely nothing, or the mounts two speeds are "Slow" and "Slow" . Not to mention the misleading menu that makes it seem like there's 4 potential mounts when there's 1 in the game, 1 as dlc, and 1 as a preorder bonus (that's apparently just a reskin?).
I really thought we'd get to kidnap-I mean rescue more mounts since Highwing can be added to the Vivarium, but nope just the slowest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ birdhorse in existence and a stick that goes 20x faster. The number of baffling design choices in this game are really becoming apparent the more I play. What drunk lunatic okayed this?

Edit: Also, why does it look and sound so pained when I summon or dismiss it? It screams and its head gets bent backwards, why did they do this.

Edit 2: Finished the game, can confidentially say they actually did the ground mount right. Although it's slower than the broom or the hippogriff, it serves an actual purpose, being able to defend yourself while mounted. It has a drawback compared to other mounts but also a benefit to balance it, that's what the hippogriff is missing.

Except in those games, motorcycles are usually faster or have better maneuverability. It's never just an RP thing, they have to have some additional value to have those drawbacks make sense. If they handle worse and are slower, that's a poorly designed game just like how this is poorly designed for having no positives beyond personal taste.

For sure, hippogriff first then broom would be perfect. Pretty fast mount that needs more focus and control followed by the way faster, more customizable and upgradeable option would actually make sense in a video game. Sure, realistically you'd be able to buy the broom but the mount would be harder, but this is a video game and the second option being worse is insane. It just makes you go "alright, can't wait to use this mou-oh...guess I'm never using this". No spoilers but the ground mount you get way later is even worse since flying the broom near the ground gives infinite boost.

See, I might understand this response if there was literally anything else in the game that has RP relevance. Eating does nothing, you can't get caught in restricted sections, in fact nothing in Hogwarts is off limits, you can't lose points, you can't RP going to class, there's no curfew, there's no actual classes, you can't talk to people or interact with them outside of missions, literally anything you could RP with is done within missions so this "it's just for RP" thing feels like excusing poor game design.

Well it does make sense in lore. Brooms are a means of transportation(like Kawaga said in the Broom Flight mission). Besides the Broom is also used in Quidditch (@dev pls have a word with Headmaster Black to reconsider and allow Quidditch again). If mounts would be as fast as or faster then brooms they would be using them also in Quidditch

Yeah, they could have added a beastriding system, that'd have been pretty damn cool.
But I don't mind, the game is gorgeous so me spending an extra 15 seconds to get from A to B has never bothered me in the slightest.

If anything I ride around on my precious hippogryph because he is my bean and I love him, rather than keeping him confined to his bag throughout the entire game.

Why do you need to get everywhere so fast? Stop and smell the roses. Enjoy the world around you. You'd be surprised how different things are. Besides, they are a fan favorite aspect of the lore.

This. Hogwarts Legacy is one of the most gorgeous games of our generation.
Just use your broom if you're so hellbent on eeking out 10 seconds of travel time.
The folks who like riding around on Highwing are more interested in admiring the landscape as they go.
Hogwarts Legacy is meant to be an adventure, not a race.

this might be surprising to you but not everything has to be about speed or flight control. Its an open world ROLE-playing game. You want to fly a mount? Sure, lets make it realistic for IMMERSION. If nobody wants to use it fine, but I doubt it because this is a ROLE-playing game. Where ROLE-PLAY takes place. Try some time. Things don't have to be so objective oriented like you have a long list of things to complete. That's what a job is for.
