Crash in Hogsmeade (While entering area to Gladrags Wizardwear)
I just got semi-free from the tutorial, enough to go back to Hogsmeade. I've been playing great after I turned off the AO/Shadow options of RTX on my 3080, so I don't think this has to do with a graphical error, but now whenever I attempt to enter Gladragsl the area in front/containing the shop causes an instant CTD.
Things I've tried:
- Removing launch options: "-high -maxMem=X -malloc=system -force-feature-level-11-0 -cpuCount=X -exThreads=X -no-singlethreaded"
- Disabling raytracing altogether
- Using fast travel to try and enter from another location or re-load the area
- Loading an older save and trying to go there first
- Disabling the "Ascendio" mod
- Lowering my output framerate (DLSS Quality > Performance Mode)

I have a few hours in and this is this is the first (and only) crash I have come across so far.

I've tried a plethora of the online fixes for just general crashing/crash-fixes for the game but I can't find a duplicate crash caused by a specific area (maybe I'm not using the correct wording/syntax?)

Anyone else have this issue or run into something similar? Any potential fix besides just not ever shopping there?

Specs:
TUF Gaming Z590 Plus MoBo
Windows 10
NVidia RTX 3080 - 10Gb VRAM (Slightly overclocked around 2000MHz)
OC Core: ~2000MHz
OC Mem: ~95000Mhz
I9-10900K 3.7GHz
64Gb DDR4 RAM
Games running from a 2TB Samsung Pro Gen 4 NVME
No overheating on the GPU/CPU that I've found.

If anyone is using this mod, there is a high chance it is the culprit. If not, try checking mods which alter the Gladrags Wizardwear stock / prices / items quality (like get only legendary items or such). There is a good chance such mods may be culprits for this particular crash. Hope this helps someone...

Man, I certainly hope so. The customization was a big sell for this game, hate to miss out or get locked out of a quest or something. So many horrible performance issues on a game like this is bad...

Who all else seeing/reading this; Is this a memory page size issue? or specific to the zone?

Hours later and the area still CTDs every single time. No idea why, I don't use any mods that affect textures or anything that may be loading (aside from maybe the outdated DLSS files that were uploaded to the Nexus and copied over the originals). At least I can change my hair but damn, 34 hours in, level 15 (almost 16), just got talents unlocked (finally), but it's Hogsmeade's Square FFS, of all the places that should have excessive QA, you'd think it'd be the castle and the main shopping area from the movies/books. I'm hoping to find a way via CE or something similar to just start the dialogue up with that NPC (via teleporting or whatever) so I can at least use one of the game's largest mechanics (customization).j I just figured something like this could be more wide spread and some sort of common through line found to help patch it in the mean time. At this point I feel it has to be from a scripting or maybe a cutscene error or something, since the area is fully loaded, it's only when you enter the area it instantly CTDs with no on screen log (I'm sure it's in the log files in one of the folders though).

AAA for you guys. Avalanche of all people know this kind of stuff...

Same problem, similar specs, did like 4hrs troubleshooting, even created new characters. Patch didnt help either

Same issue, I am at the part of the first visit to Hogsmeade where I just picked up the last of the three objectives and I am supposed to talk to Sebastion in the Town Square near Gladrags and as I start up the steps from I instantly CTD - tried going around and trying to enter from a different direction. but same result

Discovered something else as well, after the crash, when I try to load back in using the last autosave I CTD before it fully loads me in. If I go back a save or two I can get back in but it takes me back before the visit to the last Vendor - for me it was the plant vendor Magic Kneep or whatever. Oddly enough even if the Manual save I made AFTER the Magic Kneep purchase is the save I am loading it still shows that Objective needs to be done again and I have to buy the seeds again,

I also tried modifying the in-game overall graphics preset from recommended to Medium and still CTD at the exact same spot

So as soon as my character gets within 20 ft of Sebastian from any direction it CTD

i've got exactly the same problem - visited all of Hogsmeade without any sign of a problem (aside the abysmal performance) but as soon as i get into the vicinity of the Shop > instant CTD, no error MSG
Tried everything besides an OS reinstall, which i'm not willing to do - so basically i'm stuck since i have to go there for the MSQ after the "incident"

EDIT: The Patch yesterday worked, better performance and i'm able to visit the shop now.

I got it to work for myself but it was due to an issue with one of the mods I had installed (specifically the dot reticle mod, I didn't place it in the correct sub-folder and the load order wasn't happy about it. Aside from making sure you have no modded files and fresh integrity check I don't know what else could be the cause or why it happens specifically in Hogsmeade Square.

Since there's a save editor (as well as an "advanced" editor for the sqllite DBs) it may be possible for some some of us that got past that section (I always save incrementally, so I have one right after getting back to Hogwarts). The name, house, etc can be edited using the basic tools. If you were willing to use the editor and extract the Save as well as the two sqlite DBs we should be able to at least get you to that point. The only real changes would be gender/looks, however those can be edited by just opening the .sav up in any text editor and looking for the specific customized parts (i.e. your head shape is shown within the file as something like "HeadShape0xx" (where xx is the number you chose, 1 being the first and so on. So even if the save used a completely different look for you, that can be rectified (I imagine a better save editor GUI will eventually be out to help make that happen a little easier before long).

It's a bummer to have to skip about an hour of the game because for whatever reason the Hogsmeade Square files are causing so many issues, but if you can live without needing to visit that clothing shop, all collection items, etc. can be added via the editor.
Just a thought/band-aid. It took me 4 days and screwing with the sql db's a bit before my rage about a lost level 16 character subsided (not to mention the trainer I'm using to catch up can multiply game speed by up to like 15x normal, which really gets you caught up quick).

Oh also, I now backup my save folder after each session (locally, cloud saves are now disabled since it caused the original loss of my save data) using a little xcopy work in a .bat file. It's worth doing before each launch since you never know what might happen with this damn game.

just ran into this myself, specifically Gladrags. It didn't in the beginning, when i went in there after the trolls, but now i can't even make it to the front door without a crash. Can't figure out why.

Have you learned anything new about this? I haven't been able to square away which mod(s) is causing this crash. All I know is that I have no issues if I remove all of them.

Exact same issue here, crashing as soon as in enter the shop, not even an error message
