Camera issues: Too close & Off Centre
Dear Avalanche Software, thank you so much for making this game, I am very excited to play it, but the default, off centre* camera angle is disorienting and I am unable to enjoy the experience. Several other players are having issues with the camera being too close up. Could you please look into a patch/option to adjust the camera in a future patch?

*What do I mean by 'off centre'?

The current camera angle positions character slightly to the left. Alan Wake did this too, which made the game totally unplayable for me. Unlike getting used to inverted controls, this is completely impossible for me to grasp. Swapping shoulder angles isn't enough, and adjusting the FOV slider (just attempted) does not fix this problem. See below:

This is where the character should be:

I've seen many people on Reddit claim they don't understand this issue, but a few do:

Some have even claimed third-person games always have cameras like this (false). A couple of action-adventure games with centred cameras are listed below.

I hope you can consider our request for adjustable camera settings. I do not want to refund this game and have been looking forward to it for a long time. Thank you! :steamhappy:

This may not fix the angle/centering issues, but a lot of folks recommend turning camera acceleration all the way down and turning sensitivity up all the way for a better overall experience.

I agree more camera options would improve things.

I agree 1,000,000,000,000% with this post...

Here are some examples if what I would want, made in photoshop:

Agreed with all your photoshops NUKE, they are *perfect*. Argh hurts my soul the game just didn't come with camera options right out the gate. I don't know how bad the current perspective is for you (I can't even play beyond the first 10 mins due to dizziness) but hopefully you've been able to at least enjoy the game a bit. Honestly, perhaps this just isn't a huge issue for the majority of people and that's why it hasn't yet been addressed.

Umakurokoto thanks also for your response, I ended up trying that and it did make the game run more smoothly but the character/avatar is still positioned to the left. So far no adjustments (FOV, accel, sensitivity) have fixed this. I'll keep praying for a patch/mod.

Its so good to see that other people have the same issue, with dizziness like me with this off centered camera... I have max FOV and still I can understand you 100% - when you say "It hurts my soul" that's exactly how I feel...

And I just discovered that you don't even need photoshop to create those images - anyone running Nvidia can press ALT+F2 and position the camera anywhere he/she wants!

Here take a look... https://imgur.com/a/5QtzDYU

I google every single day for a camera mod for this game... I found that there is a VR mod being developed :O

So that proves that a centered camera mod should be more than trivial for someone with experience... I wish I knew modding to do this myself :///

bump, need a centered, backed up camera. the nausea and headache of a character that close and dominating my left eye is insane. heck even shoulder swap toggle key would be welcome

+1 for centered camera.

My ESO camera (one of the few games that lets you adjust it), is dead center (not even slightly offset to one side) with center of screen (aimpoint) about 1/2 heads width above the top of their head.

Never found a better camera position in any third person game.

Take NUKE's third image, and put the character so that their feet is basically touching the bottom of the screen, and zoom in so that the top of the characters head is juuuuuuust below vertical center.

I'll add my voice for a (more) centered camera or a working first person view. I get that they wanted us to see all the fancy combat animations and particle overload, but it's like a Dutch angle in films...
Everything seems "off" because of it.

Took me a minute, but here's my version of an "ideal" 3rd person camera.

Take my points :happystar2022: We definitely do. But it certainly didn't feel that way at the beginning. I kept seeing Twitch and YouTube streams with people enjoying the game. All I could think was, "Are they pretending not to be bothered by the camera?" And after wading through Reddit comments which critique the camera angle, it seems the consensus is the camera is indeed frustrating but the game is still playable. Cannot agree sadly. I would be able to play the game if it was like your screenshot! Again, awesome (nice discovery, btw!) and also tantalisingly close to what we all want. VR mod? Interesting. Just checked the video from PCInvasion and it looks pretty cool. Exactly! There are so many crazy and awesome mods out there so hopefully this basic request can be answered soon.

Xanodia, yep. Sorry to hear it and completely understand. I couldn't do it to myself after Alan Wake.

Droolguy, that camera angle is insanely good. Never did I think the words 'dead center' would give me so much joy lol! Truly ideal. Great amount of space above the character. Lucky ESO lets players adjust it, all games should offer such flexibility.

halfmonkey, absolutely. Cannot get the 'off' sensation out of my head. Funny because many 3rd person games DON'T use this angle and we can see all the 'magic' regardless!

THIS FIX IS PERFECT

and totally has the ability to center the character!

the cameras for inside/outside are apparently different, so outside you can be centered but inside buildings or smaller hogwarts rooms/halls, the camera will be slightly to the right of the character but no where near as aggressive as the default

- the camera position does not save between game restarts

- the camera sometimes defaults to the original after cutscenes but can be corrected back to custom by tapping a camera adjustment key

-everything from distance to X/Y positioning is possible and playable!

OMG??? I thought it was just zoom!!! THANKS. Right. Re-downloading the game and applying this immediately.

So happy right now :D
