Bad broom control - [SOLVED]

The game feels great in the fights. But the flight controls are something from the Stone Age. There are enough examples of how to fly nicely by holding down the right mouse button. (World of Warcraft) You can take a good look around if you want or focus on your flight path. You save unnecessary buttons like CTRL and the spacebar. W for fly forward, shift for sprint and spacebar for boost. It can't be that difficult, can it? With the controller it's so terrible 2 anatoge sticks to fly left-right/up-down. That is not how it works. It should be a stick for all directions and a stick for looking around. Just like any other game. I love this game. But flying is terrible...

EDIT: I found a working mod today. You need a controller for that. I have a PS5 controller. I haven't tried it with my X-Box and Stadia controller. I saw that someone else posted it here too. Thanks for that!

Installation:
Download .zip file.
Extract file into your mods folder (Should be in HogwartsLegacy/Phoenix/Content/Paks/mods). If the mods folder does not exist, create it.

I had huge problems with the in game controls. This mod has greatly improved my personal bests! My old best time with standard controls was 1:42 seconds. With this mod and a PS5 controller via steam i was able to beat the best time and am now at 1:29. That should give developers something to think about. This mod has what the game is badly missing!

Unfortunately, I haven't found a working solution for the keyboard users yet. For all those who have a controller, I can only say get the mod and finally have fun flying!

But the biggest problem comes when Quidditch should go live.... Now imagine playing Quidditch with this control? This is almost unthinkable if you want to react quickly to turn around etc. Something has to change urgently. I've tried a lot when it comes to bindings. But there is no way to play it like you are used to from all other games of the last few years. This is particularly annoying when you want to beat the best times. Try to get 2 rows of yellow bubbles with max speed? The broom is already flying badly so that I might be able to collect 4-5 in 2 rows and, with a lot of luck, still get through the ring. This feels so bad that I want to press atl+f4.

There's a mod on Nexus Mods to fly the Broom with a mouse. There are two versions of it - one Inverted, one normal. You can't mouselook though because camera view is locked straight ahead in the game.

I completely agree. No idea what they were thinking on this one. They tried to reinvent the wheel (or broom?) and it only took away from what should have been an awesome and liberating experience.

I have to think about that all the time too. Who the hell comes up with such an idea and pushes it through to the release? No wonder Quidditch isn't live yet. Maybe it was smart of them not to bring it live because of that. Maybe they want to wait for the reactions first... I can't think of anything else either. except that something fundamental should change when flying on the broomstick.

Of course I've already tried the mod. It's either left and right... or up and down. both didn't work for me. the mod also had a huge problem with the camera work for me. one wrong turn and you just fly off somewhere you don't want to go.

I agree. The controls for flying, especially on keyboard & mouse, are atrocious. I wouldn't mind as much if it worked something like dragon riding in WoW. But that's just my opinion.

For the controller I made an action layer that puts all the broom movement on one stick and the camera on the other stick. It helped bandaid the issue... but yeah, the broom controls are borderline unusable for me.

Personally, I haven't struggled with the control scheme for the broom and have even gotten #1 score on all of the races using mouse + keyboard.

But, perhaps it could be better? Quidditch being cancelled from the very beginning of the game is obviously because the developers couldn't figure out or be bothered with the broom beyond what they did just for another method of travel around the map.
