What actually *is* "Ancient Magic?"

I'm not very far in the story so sorry if this gets answered later on in it... but WHAT is ancient magic?
Just the ability to throw things? I don't get whats so special about that...

Meh, they all worried for nothing. Doesnt anyone get creeped out by the whole emotion messing magic thing? I thought we;d get to actually see why we have so and so magic. Bummer

It would be kinda cool if in the end your magic got classified as the 4th forbidden magic "spell"

Just as an addendum, it's not just about throwing around barrels, you can also build up a meter that allows you to cast devastating spells at monsters. Basically one shots. It's like a Hogwart's Kame Ha.

Not really one shots. It takes multiple shots... on hard difficulty. XD

I think it is still a telekinesis like ability in that regard - you are just sometimes tearing them apart atom by atom to disintegrate them... and how the HECK is the game mechanic related to the lore of it being an emotion erasure?
