So the pronouns are not a conspiracy...
Minor laziness from the game developers.

They opted for gender neutral language rather than recording two sets. Which is... Well, a glaring issue. Whenever the player character is referred to, it is using the third person plural pronouns. Other characters? Third person masculine or feminine from what I have noticed. Overall, it is a sensible choice from a monetary perspective, though it is a bit weird how it only applies to one character in-game.

With regards to accusations that the game is trying to be gender inclusive... I have found relatively little to support this. The biggest indication is that the witch/wizard choice is not tied to your character model's sexual features, but that is about it. On the interesting side of things, it turns out Sirona is transsexual. It was not just a case of a really bad force actress... Though, the voice acting is still ♥♥♥♥♥ beyond compare. It does not match the model in the slightest.

The arguments though that they did not have the budget to do the voice lines twice... Is hollow. While the game has a lot of voice lines, it is also a triple A game. Fable 1, 2, and 3, Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3, and many other games managed to afford such things with large voice casts as well.

As such, I put this down to laziness and penny pinching. Especially since... They already have quadruplicate voice lines in some cases, thanks to house choices.

Anyway, that is my opinion on this. Otherwise, really solid game. Combat reminds me of Dark Souls and Jedi: Fallen Order, though with a much more forgiving save feature. I think they should add an option to alter your wand after the fact or buy another, but hey-ho.

It's not progressive, it's cost saving.

It's less dev time to just use gender neutral pronouns most people won't even think about unless it's pointed out, than to re-record double the lines.

and in regards to the comparisons with Mass Effect and Fable i'd argue that they do the same thing but you hardly never notice it cause it's not pointed out to you.

Mass Effect for example, rather than he, she, him, her, they usually just say "Shepard" or "Captain" or something along those lines in conversation with them. So you don't think about it because you're Commander Shepard.
Would have preferred a fixed name over just pronouns, like in Cyberpunk or Mass Effect

Pronouns are a scam, there is only Biological Men and Biological Women, there is Transistor People!!!!

I'm more into vowels.

A, E, I, O, U.

And sometimes Y.

English is not my first language. As far as I know there is no way to change the language in this game. When a NPC uses "they/them" pronouns for a singular person, it confuses me extremely. It's not something grammatically proper that they teach us there at university. I sort of understand that in the United States "they/them" is appropriate for certain genders, but it would be helpful to have proper "he/him" singular pronouns for players like me who speak little English. I definitely notice the difference as it confuses me.

That's in english, i suposse...

But what about latin languages (spanish, french, italian...) in which you can't do that so easily and even adjectives have to be masculine or femenine??

1. Hogwarts uses she/he in none english languages. 2. So does Mass effect, all the time, because its normal conversation.

You only use "they" after the subject/s gender is established or you want to avoid this nonsense entirely.

Literally a non issue in italian dub, MC is addressed with the right pronoun, even adjectives and words on masculine/feminine.

Wait... I thought I remembered the pronouns also being used. Are you sure?

Oh, now that annoys me to hell and back. I am going to switch to German. I used English because the game is set in Scotland, but screw that.

I think they are but very sparingly, only if the cannot find another method.

Happy to know that, eventhoug i'm spanish, but i suposse Spanish dub will be in the same way (hope so). At least in spanish there's no neutral word/pronoum so they have to make up a fake on, so probably it will be OK.

Time to watch some gameplays on YT, just to be sure...
