The first hour or two run really well but once you get out into the open world performance is a bit dicey. I get some big slowdowns/FPS drops and while I am running at 4k so obviously will be pushing my PC hard, the game uses up to and over 18 GB of VRAM and 23 GB+ of system ram!

I think we will see a performance patch to address some of these issues in the near future. It isn't unplayable though and overall the game is actually really good imo

Some people complain about poor perfromance on high end RTX cards while others are able to run it on something like GTX 970 or steam deck.

Worst screen tear I've ever seen

I play the game on a 3080, on ultra settings 2k and there are some stutters here and there.
Most of the stutter issue are in highly populated open areas, i.e. Hogsmeade.
I have not experienced any crashes and I am maintaining 60 fps.

The game was developed with Intel CPU's and it shows.

Yeah it's smooth in Linux land.

well i got ryzen 5 3600xt rtx 3080 with 32gb ram, the game run smooth 60fps on ultra 1440p, no dlss, no raytracing.. if no limit on FPS it vary wildly based on location between 60-100+fps
DRSTARKE Feb 9, 2023 @ 11:09pm
I have fixed stuttering and the game now runs above 100fps at 1440p but i do get some weird frame drops when walking around hogwarts but only around the castle.

DLSS is the saving grace for me

im running a 9900k and a 2080ti
32 gb ram

Makes me wonder if this is one of those games that would one again benefit from DXVK.
Edit: Nevermind this is a DX12 title.

The game doesn't have V-sync? or are you playing without it?

Yeah this strikes me as an odd complaint with all the other performance issues. Zero tearing personally but everyone's system is different I guess

I think RADV_PERFTEST=gpl works to smooth out the frametimes in VKD3D. I didn't think it did but tried it anyways and things got a lot smoother.

WIndows does weird stuff with virtual memory, the users reporting stuttering probably have Windows virtual memory being saved to an HDD, not the SSD. I don't know why Windows does this, but it does.

thanks for the input everyone, I think I'll give it a shot see what happens.

Honestly you should be fine if you are realistic with the settings appropriate for your hardware. It is a really good game and worth having to perhaps mess around a bit with settings if it gets too choppy here and there

"Poorly" it runs fine on my old Nvidia GPU (GTX1070). Then I switched to RX 7900 xtx. The game now crash every 10 minutes....

Unfortunately, I don't want to remove all components from my PC, so I'll just have to wait for the day1 patch and hope things are better.
