Beast toybox bugged?

Is it just me or does this thing not do anything and is purely cosmetic. I figured it was like the beast feeding trough, which keeps your beasts fed while your away from your vivarium, but obviously it would keep them groomed/cared for so you didn't have to brush every single beast. But either it's bugged or it isn't supposed to do that. Have not been able to Google this answer so share your experience please
