Why are Harry Potter fans so hateful?

Just seems weird to me that fans of this series are displaying some of the most hateful and angry remarks towards others I've ever seen. Not trying to start anything, I'm just kind of baffled and saddened at the state of human decency right now.

so basically jk rowling has quite a active stance against transsexuallity. this creates a effect where some persons who are pro trans stand against her, and by extension harry potter since she gets money from harry potter.

When politics became involved it was going to end up hateful, but even without it, there will be some, do to peoples expectations being different.

Part of it's JK Rowling now made a reputation for being intolerant, so her fiction is totemized among intolerant people.

Extremism and intolerance tend to create more extremism and intolerance.

I'll tell you what, if this game came out prior to her intolerant remarks, the conversation would be much calmer and those attracted to intolerance wouldn't be involved.

It's unfortunate, but the creator herself is largely responsible for this atmosphere around the game. It takes away from the experience, but she fomented and encouraged it with her own outspoken position, attracting all manner of intolerant folks to soapbox their unsightly opinions for whoever it is they happen to hate.

As someone that played Yugioh, spent hours on youtube, played LoL, have read wuxia/xianxia novels...this is actually the most toxic and hateful community that I've witnessed, and its damn hard to top the wuxia/xianxia community. Those people degrade women just for existing, yet somehow this whole forum managed to be worse.

its a multi pronged thing.

I think a lot of it, maybe most, of it is that this is the alt right's crusade of the month.

Then you have the people that go rage blind with childhood nostalgia when they think something is threatening their old memories. causing them to lash out.

People will unironically say that the Harry Potter books are a masterpiece, with they are really just a boilerplate ya novel that has plenty of issues.

The movies, at least the early ones, id argue are masterpieces of set design costuming and practical effect. but besides that some people simply cannot see the past rationally and will protect it at all costs.

It’s not Harry Potter fans. It’s the damn internet. You have an element of anonymity that gives people a little more confidence to treat people like dirt where otherwise in a public situation wouldn’t happen. I don’t know how long you have been gaming but ever since online gaming started with text Mud RPGs like dragon realms there have always been awful people. It’s just now people are a whole lot more sensitive to it.

i'm trying to keep my post as neutral as possible, so i was not trying to say every member of those groups are at the same level as others. yes some persons are extremely more toxic than others in how they stand on these matters, and some are quite more peaceful.
