Follow the butterflies

Currently doing follow the butterflies side quest, but no butterflies is appearing? Does anyone else have this issue? Tried reloading and wating to day/night

If you have triggered the butterflies previously but didn't know it, just go to where the icon is on the minimap, look for a White Butterfly Icon, I happened to do this once, the butterflies may take a while to respawn or reposition, but where they were previously, the icon had moved somewhere else, that's where they were with the loot under them as well

In any case, if maybe you fast travel to the school then go back, maybe the butterflies will be in the spot again

I'm stuck on this too, it keeps telling me to go to the original spot (i saw them once but got killed by the creature on the river) and now there's none there at all. I have tried fast travelling away and back, reloading, doing other quests but it seems bugged for me

Same here. I have the same problem and i don't know how to fix it.

I triggered the butterflies, too and then died. I thought the quest is bugged, because the purple circle on the minimap is still at the beginning of the forest.
You have to go much deeper into the forest to find the butterflies. Follow the quest "Der Flüchtige" (in english maybe "The absconder") - you have to deal with a huge spider there. On the way to that quest you find the butterflies.

Its not working for me either. Tried the save and restart method but didn't work. Just keep seeing the purple circle thats all.

Fix:

Go back to the 3 Broomsticks tavern and talk to Clementine, then when you go back to the area the butterflies will be there again.

There is no White Icon, just the smaller purple circle next to the signs where the butterflies originally spawned. They don't spawn anymore. There was an icon, first time round, but no longer. There's also no flower or chest by the tree where walkthroughs show me the butterflies lead you to.

But I guess there's no solution.

Weird, It worked for me and I had this very issue. I did restart the game x times and teleported to different locations trying to reset the butterflies before I went back to the tavern in Hogsmeade and talked to Clementine.

So I ended up going back to the location of the Butterflies and there they were! Something else triggers the quest to 'refresh', because going back to the tavern was the first thing I tried. I assume if anyone else has this issue they'll stumble into it being fixed like I did.
