How to travel with companions?

I've been playing for a while now, but the companions have only joined me a couple of times on story missions

That is the only time they join, they aren't meant to be with you every quest.

Really my only main complaint with the game is this reason above. You would think you would have your 'Ron and Hermione' so to speak along with you on your adventures. The companions in this game are more like acquaintances. A true companion system would have added a whole new level of dynamics and replayability to the game.

Damn they even talk about it in game like they can follow you everywhere like in skyrim. Thats kinda shame

yeah, the so many times showed and speaks about that and use that word "companion". That i was think that they can join you, but in reality they can't.

i agree with you, If they was real friends, they would love spend with you time. And someone is mentioned from reddit that "character keeps making remarks about doing stuff alone or not having someone with me to see it." Why they would do that if they didn't give that options, is strange.

Didn't the gameplay trailer show them doing just this? I am a bit disappointed this isn't an option, it feels kind of lonely out in the wilds.
