merlins trials bugged [includes fixes]

Has this happened to anyone else?
I can start the quest (Merlin trials) with Nora, but as soon as I beat the first two thieves, noone else shows up and Nora thinks the fight is still going on. Guides online say 3 more thieves are supposed to show up, but I cannot get them to spawn...
I hope restarting a different safe fixes the issue, I'm going to try the usual restarting everything for now.
edit: so far I've tried restarting the game, restarting from a different save, restarting my pc, abandoning and restarting the quest - for now nothing seems to spawn in the enemies that I need to progress the quest.
edit 2: seems like there are two solutions - for me it worked to abandon the quest and finish a different one first. For another player it seems to help to create a new save after the two thieves are down. So try both if you keep having the same issue.
edit 3: two more fixes from the comments, finishing the first two thieves off, outside of the circle and doing a manual safe after the fight against the initial thieves have helped some people.
edit 4: two more fixes also from the comments: turn down your graphics and restart the game or try opening the map and pressing r3 to wait and change the time of day.

I did this quest and one of the thieves was stuck under the ground. And he was talking to himself. O.o weird...

Well I am happy to report that abandoning the quest, finishing an entirely different quest and then trying again fixed the issue for me. I hope it works for you as well!

It happened to me too on my Steam Deck! When I beat the first two, I saved it mid battle. Then I loaded that save, and it fixed for me!

I had this problem as well on the steam deck. Only thing that worked for me was to abandon the quest. Worked perfectly after that.

Did it work? I tried that yesterday but it still didnt work. Even tried multiple quests.

All I did was abandon the quest just now and start it over and it fixed itself.

Manual save than loading worked for me

I couldn’t get any of the fixes recommended to work. What worked for me was abandoning then starting the fight again but killing them outside the purple circle.

I have the same bug. Loading earlier save did not help. Finishing another quest also not. I am stucked on this mission. Fighting outside violer circle also did not help.

Do not load an earlier save.

Kill the 2 guys, manual save, then load that save.
