Badly written?

I am 4 hours in and I am yet to meet a character I will care about. Otherwise, the game is pretty fantastic (with the exception of the performance). What do you think about the writing/story and does it get better?

As someone who hasn't bought the game yet I'd be interested in why you say the game is poorly written or why the characters don't make you care about them.

Seb is a good guy and most people like him. The rest of the story is okay I guess. I mean you’re a special plot armor guy as usual saving the day.

i wouldnt call it badly written, tbh the story is intrigueing and im enjoying it. That said the dialogue delivery from a number of the VA is cringy as hell. The trans bar tender feels like WB were sick of the backlash so gave them the most cringy sounding trans character as punishment.

Story is like Harry Potter. Has the same feel as if you were Harry Potter exploring the world but a bit older. Just like her mysteries of curious leads and situations leading Harry around for a purpose.

Feels good to me. Story has been good. Tons of voice acting. Love the teachers. It feels like Harry Potter but our own story.

The nonstop kindness and jovial attitudes of the staff/students seems fake and forced.

It's corporate paint-by-numbers writing by committee. It can't be considered genuine/authentic, has no artistic value whatsoever, and has very little entertainment value to people with developed tastes.

I mean...in a way they were cruel. Think about this for one moment: they put a transgender person in the 1800s <------do you understand what they did back then? Lobotomy was considered revolutionary and full swing for the go-to solution for 2 decades

I have a good PC (3080, 32 RAM, Ryzen 9), but jumping from 200 FPS to 40 depending on the location is just not good.

This might be very much it as I have trouble believing what is happening. I might be influenced by playing Witcher 3 and Kingdom Come lately, but movies did not have this problem.

Well, the intro is phenomenal, but then there are no real backgrounds for the characters nor anything that would make you care for them. You basicaly don't know them nor really understand them. They are always smiling, they are not facing any real problems. You offend someone, he will be a bit annoyed and after the next dialog option he is smiling again like if you never offended him. The story so far (6 hours in) did not move anywhere, I attended some lectures and helped with some quests, I can fly now, but there is nothing to keep you interested in what is next as nothing is really happening as of now.

you can FLY?! I'm like 9 hours in and I haven't figured that one out yet...the hell am I doing wrong? (actually I'm pretty sure I spent 3 hours just literally running around the world killing spiders and goblins, but still...)

Take for example Witcher 3, in first 6 hours, you meet Bloody Baron who is facing a real life issues, you already met Wild Hunt and you know exactly what you have to do and that it is URGENT, there were incredible side characters with clear intentions, e.g. Emhyr, who wants Ciri NOW, you have met Keira Metz who is interesting, Yennefer for the first time. You have learned about the problems of people in White Orchard, there is nothing like it so far.
