The game started and went down with no errors, nothing.
It was as if the game didn't exist.
I was so frustrated that I created this post for people to help themselves.
- very many different virus/malware/adware scans to check my system
- move freshly installed data back to my SSD
- SFC /SCANNOW - damaged Files found and successfully repaired
- SFC /SCANNOW again - all fine now
- maintenance of windows showed no errors - run maintenance anyways
- run on ShadowPC with my steam account and family share - working fine
- try to report a bug on wbgames.com - endlessloop after click on "create" - tried to reload and submit bug report again - doesn't work... (now that's interesting right?)
- run with starting options (steam) "-autoconfig -condebug - windowed"
- checked installed files via steam again
observations:
Files in "C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor" are missing (compared to a working installation) - only input.ini appeared during my process

Seems on my local PC HL isn't able to run the optimization/initialization skript.
On my shadow it didn't run so smooth that's why I want to run it on my local machine, also.. because.. yeah I have a local PC and want to play it there..
I'll anyways open a post on a trojan board and describe my problem just because these guys have more experience with behaviour of different kinds. And also to double check for malicious stuff. Also will try again to open a bug report at wb.. and maybe one via steam.
edit: bug report at wb worked now
wanted to give an update on my progress:
Tl;dr : uninstalled Avira Antivirus - game starts and running fine...
Background to this:
Posted my case on a Trojan board. They help people get their PCs clean. So I posted there and on another board that is just for Windows problems. While reading stuff on that trojan board (learning that avira is kinda trash) I uninstalled avira (because also have better stuff running) I get an answer on that windows board. They asked me to reproduce my problem so I went on steam to start the game and it starts lol
Hope can help with that in the future!
Thanks to you all who supported me and support each other here. Really awesome of you!
1 - Simple Wall, protects your computer and is lightweight.
2 - Bleach bit or Privazer for cleaning.
3 - Hinfo64 to see GPU and CPU temperatures.
4 - Crystal Disk Info to see the health of your disks.
Good game
Make sure the game is not running in the background. If it is - kill it.
Go to ‘C:\Users<your-user>\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved’ and delete everything except for the ‘SaveGames’ folder (if you have it)
Next go to ‘C:\ProgramData\Hogwarts Legacy’ and delete everything except for the ‘NotAllowedUnattendedBugReports’ file
Start the game and it should take some time to properly prepare the shader cache for real this time and let you in
Or just use the already installed Windows Firewall. Simple Wall is acting as an interface to Windows Firewall, in a nutshell. Never understood why people use Simple Wall rather than learn to do the exact same things with host base firewalls that are already installed natively.
Simple Wall uses resources that are not necessary.
The problem with the game is that when loading play, the game starts and returns to Windows.
No errors at all, now I can play it but a lot of people have never played it.
It's strange but it's reality.
So much #trash# is unnecessary.
Have you investigated event viewer yet? It will show you where the game is experiencing the crash. This does not mean you will find the silver bullet, you will find the next leg of work ahead of you.
And have you done this today?
Have you also done a steam repair?
Is the game installed on a solid state drive?
The game worked for me after the first update, miraculously.
I played for around 40 hours and stopped because the optimization wasn't the best.
I used Windows 10 ver 22h1 and 22h2 didn't work on either.
I have nvme and Samsung ssd in all my computers and amd cpu.
I use a Noctua DH - 15 dual air cooler (best air cooler for me) and the fans almost come out lol and there is no dirt.
The game for many players never worked, ever.
In the first week I tested everything, drivers, windows, other computers, reinstalled, repaired, I even had users helping me move game folders lol.
Frankly, we are not the ones who have to do this work.
The game, when preparing the Shaders, puts a strange strain on the CPU and fills up the RAM.
No worries, thank you for taking the time to help me understand more.
How much RAM does your computer have? And what video card does your computer have?

Indeed! Particularly if you are a lower amount of RAM.
