Not sure which house you're in, but in Slytherin there's a chest by the exit of the house that you can store your stuff in.

There's no reason to keep excess equipment if you possess something with better stats, you get the appearance permanently once you've obtained an item. Just sell it for the gold if its not an upgrade

i think you just have to come back for items when you have room or sell items you don't want to use for now - maybe later on you will get storage as the game progresses, unsure as im not that far in.

good to know.

Its the only thing in game that is annoying me so far. and not just this game.

They want to have lots of loot but always choke off the carrying capsity.

and in this game it makes no sense. you literally have a magic bag.

You do unlock more gear storage as you progress through the game, it's part of the open world challenges, to note.

That is not for storing items. That is for depositing coins you find from Daedalian Keys

I was thinking about alternate sets of gear at the start, and worked out early on that its pointless to keep anything you aren't wearing.
Your production and purchase of upgrade beast parts etc is so high that you can literally go change traits or upgrade something 1 armour point higher without even thinking about it, JUST for a fight.
Anything that isn't the best, you can customise. So sell ALL the excess, literally NO point. Unless there are very special items out there I haven't seen yet.

the house chest, is actually just part of the daedeullus key quest.
you get 16 of them, and get a fancy robe based on your house
