How to fix performance issues
Second discussion of the day woot woot. Seems a lot of people need help with this. Here's some things to try (No particular order)

1. Update Windows if you haven't.

2. Make sure you have latest version of C++
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

3. If you have less than 32 GB of RAM, set a Pagefile so you will equal that amount. If you have 32 GB or more, ignore this step.

4. Update your graphics drivers. Most performance issues are usually driver related.
NVIDIA CARDS: https://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx
AMD CARDS: https://www.amd.com/en/support

5. Set Hogwarts Legacy to "High" priority in Task Manager.

6. Validate the game files.

7. In-game settings ;
- Make sure to turn V-Sync off if you have a G-Sync/Freesync display.
- Use DLSS
- Turn Off Raytracing
- Turn off Nvidia Reflex Low Latency
- Set Framerate to 60 in the settings (more is really unnecessary for a game like this)
- Turn off Motion Blur, Depth of Field, Chromatic Aberration if you don't like them (less is more)
- Set the game's settings to low and see what your frame rate is. This is your maximum possible frame rate. Turn the settings up from here until you are happy.

Any questions? Any other advice? Comment below.

EDIT: I should have posted this earlier, but if you have the game on a HDD, make sure to put it on a SSD, preferably a NVMe. The game uses Microsoft Direct Storage API, which will not work if you're not using an NVMe. This is probably the #1 cause for stuttering issues, due to the lack of I/O performance.

how do you do a Pagefile? I;ve got 16Gb of Ram, GTX 1660 TI Max Q 6Gb and an Intel i7 10750H. My game crashes before the ceremony as the castle is loading in, i reinstalled and managed to get to the sorting ceremony before it crashed but im back to outside the castle. I have AMD FSR 2 on ultra performance with 0.33 sharpness as i cant use DLSS. uncapped fps, and no motion blur, depth of field, chromatic abrasion or film grain. Nvidia reflux low latency is on with the +boost setting as well. cant seem to find the issue. all graphics settings are on low. during the tutorial it was running 60+ fps on medium graphics

System -> Advanced System Settings -> Advanced -> Pagefile

Turn Flow Guard off for Hogwarts Legacy I heard that helps some people also for DLSS update it to newest version I also heard that helps to

I don't really have problems with performance, but I do have issues with stuttering (the game goes from stable 90-110fps to 20fps for a few seconds and then back again to 90-110fps). I tried locking the FPS to 60fps, but it still happens albeit less frequently. I tried all the possible workaround/fixes posted but I'm still getting this issue.
Do you have this same issue, too? My specs are 5600X + 32GB DDR4@3200mhz + 3070Ti.

Where did you get that information from - that this game airs direct storage??

Was just going to ask that. If it did, I'm sure it would be in any search engine results, but I'm not seeing anything except forspoken, which only partially uses the API.

My apologies, it WAS Forspoken that leveraged Direct Storage not Hogwarts Legacy. The two released so close together, I got the API release mixed up! Don't hate me! Not trying to spread false information!

I can confirm this i thought about the same thing and my pagefile.sys was on hdd and i thought lets move it to ssd and it worked now i don't have constant stuttering problem
i have i7 8700k+2080ti+16GB Ram+1440p
i am running the game on 1440p rendering resolution on everything at ultra setting locked at 60fps in menu at i am getting 45-60 in Hogsmeade and 35-60 fps in Hogwarts castle and 60 fps outside i haven't tested for max fps and i don't want to know lol as you said 60 fps is perfect for this game so i locked it at 60fps in menu. i hope it helps everyone who is also facing the same issue!

Try setting the game to fullscreen using the Engine.ini tweak, that solves almost all of my stuttering issues.

Everyone does. It's the game /engine. Problem is some people are muddying the topic BSIng that they don't have it. Or they are totally technically inept and don't notice /understand the issue.

OP don't tell people to mess with the page file, it's not 1999. And don't change priority in task manager.

As someone who has actually used a large page file to actually run games that wouldn't run without a large page file, I can honestly say that having a large page file on a FAST drive (preferably NVMe) is a great solution to having low memory.

I run old computers as a hobby and some of them you can only put a maximum of 8 GB/16 GB of memory into them. Page files allow them to run games they normally wouldn't, albeit a little bit slower than running with memory.

This discussion was created on/before LAUNCH DAY, most of the performance issues have been addressed on nexusmods. Please just go there and install some mods to improve performance.

Also, I ran this game on a X5470 + 1080 and performance was decent - but long load times due to CPU bottleneck. If an absolute potato processor from 2008 can run the game, you can figure it out. I promise.

If you have nVidia just use the magic fix-it button in the GeForce Experience utility. Much less hassle than all that.
