In game :
1) Do you have Haptic feedbacks or not ?
2) Do you have Reactive triggers or not ?
This works perfectly for games such as Uncharted or God of War, but with Steam Input disabled the controller does not work at all in games that do not have native DualSense support.
Hogwarts Legacy clearly DOES have native DualSense support (as the controller works), but no rumble or adaptive triggers when connected that way. VERY unfortunate. Probably better to use Steam Input until this is fixed - you still get PS buttons with Steam Input (that does NOT imply native DualSense support, that might confuse some users).
Unfortunately, with Steam Input, beyond advanced haptics / adaptive triggers not working for obvious reasons, the touchpad also does not work as unique button - but the game still presumes you have it working and shows prompts for it, even though it just works as start/select, depending on which side you press.
I guarantee I feel haptics lol. Not sure why I'd lie about that? Just trying to help others who might be having issues, to let them know that yes, it's possible.
I get all kinds of haptics, not just XB360 style "rumble" lol... like I wrote earlier, there's even a subtle "bump" when I enter the pause menu. There's bunch of haptics during combat, cutscenes. Etc. Feels very current-gen.
No idea about reactive triggers though... if they do something, the tutorials haven't mentioned it yet. Haven't flown yet, so maybe that'll be something.
But all the button prompts are correct, even hitting the pad to bring up the map.
Are you running in Steam Input mode or in DualSense native mode (wired + Steam Input disabled)?
In Steam Input mode with default profile vibrations DO work - generic rumble, not DualSense advanced haptics. I have no idea if even the PS5 version utilizes those, many (most?) PS5 games don't (and neither do they support adaptive triggers).
Just to be clear, you can still get some nice and precise rumble even with Steam Input, subtle haptics when casting etc. - as long as you have a good controller with decent left/right motors. I am playing in Steam Input mode right now and the haptics ARE pretty good. But those are still not DualSense-specific advanced haptics (again, I have no clue if even the PS5 version has those), those (& adaptive triggers) on PCs work ONLY when wired and with Steam Input disabled.
However, assuming the default Steam controller profile, the pad has functionality according to the side you press it at, corresponding to the button at that side. So when you press the left side of the touchpad, you get the same functionality as Create/Select button (map, IIRC), when the right side, you get the Options/Start button (codex/options). But since Steam Input emulates generic Xbox controller compatibility, it absolutely cannot work as a unique/distinct button (you can remap it to whatever you want in Steam controller options and load/create your own profile, of course).
In DualSense native mode, the game is able to recognize the touchpad as a distinct button (and not just that, you should be able to recognize exact location of the presses etc., but Hogwarts does not utilize that, not even on PS5 AFAIK). But there is no rumble/haptics.
Regarding adaptive triggers, I'm not sure if even the PS5 version of Hogwarts Legacy utilizes those, maybe some PS5 version owner could chime in...
But is it just me or is the rumble really weak? I can barely feel it (even in Spider-Man, which is supposed to 100% support it). My Switch Joy-Con rumble feels more "HD" than the DualSense's.
Sound Control Panel (in Settings just type in Sound Settings, it's under the related settings on the right) > Right Click Speakers "Wireless Controller" > Configure Speakers > Next > Check Front left and right and Surround speakers.
I then make sure the controller is at full output volume (without the game outputting from it).
Then I went into game page > manage > manage > controller layout > recommended > "Official Layout for Hogwarts Legacy - Gamepad"
Back to the game page > manage > properties > controller > use default settings
If you use Steam Input, you don't have to bother about the controller audio at all. That is only a thing of you are trying to use the controller with Steam Input disabled. You can disable the audio device and rumble will still work.
Go to your Steam Library: Hogwarts Legacy (right click) > Properties > Controller > In the dropdown, choose: Enable Steam Input.
This fixed it for me with a wired connection. I now have complete PS5 Controller support with full Haptic feedback, rumble, etc.
I usually use DS4 (recently bought DSX to trial it) - but I made sure they were both fully closed (background processes included) to avoid any 'conflicts'.
Hope this helps someone!
This made rumble work but it's not nearly as good other games I've played on my PS5. Feels like it's just the standard/boring Xbox controller rumble and not the next level dualsense functions I've gotten used to. Anyone agree?
They sadly closed it. Lets keep voting/commenting!
