The reason isn't ever fully explained, only that we grew up to the age that people graduate Hogwarts from, and then became a student due to some special circumstance. Perhaps there's a prophecy out there about it that the headmaster knows, as Percival, one of the "Keepers" was a Seer and already knew you'd be at the school. They might have simply sent fig to train us and get us to Hogwarts to match the Seer's instruction, without much more information themselves as his divination was to be seen as important.

um you got that information wrong. Hogwarts students don't "Graduate" from Hogwarts in 5th year. They graduated in the SEVENTH year.

The developers would need to build characters that can age over time. Just like the pervasive they/them dialogue, it's a cost-cutting measure.

Hogwarts, Durmstrang and Beauxbatons are canon. Rest are not part of og Potter and thus are fanfiction.

Canon means content that is true to the original story. All things introduced anywhere else, no matter who writes them, are not canon. Only the first 7 books are original story and thus are the sole canon.

So that means malfoy didn't suppose that Harry could be another Dark Lord
Flindeo spell isn't cannon yet it is even if its not used in the books
Neville never did magic as a baby.

coz we want to play as someone adult enough to do some quests and be believable to do so
a first semester of 8 or 9 years old wouldn't be convincing enough, and also the most of us wouldn't want to play as a toddler.

A teenager with 15 16 years of age is close enough to being adult, that it doesn't turn off adults.
The harry potter fans that were children when it came out, are now in their late 30s and early 40s...

no way youd be allowed to freely explore outside hogwarts as a 1st and 2nd year. 5th year is a good year to be a student since theres more freedom. Also for some reason it seems people with ancient magic are late bloomers.

This -Hogwarts students don't even get to go to Hogsmede untll there 3rd year. I do wonder if there's exception for siblings. Because there is a bit of a blooper in Book 5 about Denis Creevy (who is only a 2nd year) being in Hogs Head with Colin who is a 4th year.

I suspect they decided to make us a 5th Year Student so that they did not have to design a 'Hogwarts School Simulator' (something neither truly attempted nor achieved yet). Making the choice allowed them to lean on traditional and uninspired Action RPG tropes (fetch quests, collect quests, and limited enemy types for encounters). Remember, the studio has never made anything of this hype and scope before. So they played it safe and implemented time tested busy work mechanics.
