Rolling and dodging, lol, really?
Instead of giving the characters some evade spell like a blink or short range teleport to dodge attacks you gave them just a normal rolling to avoid attacks? So far the gameplay i've seen is pretty bad.

the only spell that has this effect is apparate and its more of a longer distance travel spell not a few feet, as well as being something only very advanced witches and wizards know like Dumbledore

Yeah, they could have given at least animation of a magical spell like Blink from WoW to the evasion move. Ruins immersion big time when Wizards in a full-on magic setting evade spells by doing the Dark Souls i-frame rolls.

that doesnt exist within lore.

might I also mention that apparate while being a common spell in the universe is often only used to travel long distances by very well attuned wizards or witches. and not to mention it can be very dangerous to use willy nilly or on the whim. which explains why noone uses it in combat unless maybe to escape a threat while cornered
Admittedly it does look a little goofy but yeah the lore doesn't really allow for a teleport spell.

Why they decided to copy Dark Souls for a HP universe game is a whole other can of worms.

Both the counterspell mechanic and short range blink are in the game.

That’s as well I suppose
unfortunately assassins creed made rolling the staple defensive action in action rpgs. Then dark souls made it the -only- mechanic. sometimes you get to push Y!!

Yeah video games have become copies of eachother. Thats why I think the new dragonball games did a really good job. AT the end of the day no matter what game you play, you're just pushing buttons to make your character do things. What differs is how that plays out on screen and how fun it feels. And the dragon ball games, you might just be pushing square 7 times in a row, but that translates you to flying around the map knocking your opponent through mountains and blasting him with super massive energy attacks, all from just pushing one button 7 times.

I feel like they shouldn't have modeled this game off of assassins creed and its clones, but, that is the current 'most popular system'. So. Alright I guess.

Heres the deal. If the magic in this game is not more fun than skyrim, then we have a very serious problem. In skyrim I can combine two lightning spells into a massive lightning blast kamehameha style. If we can't do anything like that, this was a bust. Skyrim is old as hell by now, no excuse to not have the bare minimum in a game thats ALL about magic.

I already posted in another thread about how little 26 spells is. Each of those 26 spells should be ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC or this was a failure. Wizarding world is 100% about magic. If the game play is going to be shallow, and the options limited, then what is translated on screen needs to compensate.

And if the only argument for not having fun things in the game is "thats not lore friendly lol" then this game was doomed to start.

You can like harry potter and still be honest about what makes a game fun. And the reality is people paying money dont care how lore friendly your game is, if it isnt fun. See every other harry potter game to date for reference.

Lets go into this hopeful and not trash the game before we play it, but people are allowed to voice their concerns, and we're allowed to be objective and criticize something we support, other we're no different than the people trying to suppress speech.

Sometimes doing backflips is better than magic.

Apparition is what you're talking about, but for lore reasons, that's not typically taught to Hogwarts students until their 7th year, and we don't know if this game progresses beyond the 5th year. That being said, there's also an ancient magic ability we've seen in the State of Play trailer that works as some kind of magical dodge/flash step mechanic

I've seen teleporting with smoke trails in previews.. Like Death eaters and Aurors do.
