Epic or Steam
Client politics aside, and obv biases aside too. I'm thinking of getting the game on epic instead of steam. with the lack of preload and the global release + late day release I worry about the congestion and I wonder if I buy and download it on the less popular client I'll reasonably have less download congestion.

I'm wondering if that makes sense or anything I'm not considering.

just change the steam download servers to some obscure country and you shouldn't have to worry about congestion and also you don't support the CCP.

Not sure why you'd be worried about congestion. Have you even checked the amount of download servers Steam has? Hell, I get my downloads at extremely high speeds even on release days.

Buy on both.

I don't remember having an issue downloading a game on steam. If there is an issue it'll likely be with the game itself.

Obviously Steam is the way. Epic Launcher is a trash, Epic used to have huge data leaks in past, store passwords in plain text and their servers can't compete with Akamai Cloud Services used by Steam. Download speed can never reach more than 30% of network capabilities.

Most are going to say Steam because it's a cult thing but if you don't mind using Epic then go for it. Makes little difference, pretty much no difference for a single player game.

What platform are you posting this on? Oh.... Right...
That's your answer.

Considering how long Steam has been around and how many people download games daily from it. How many massive games have been released and downloaded, at the same time, by users. If any company has near perfected how to deal with high traffick - it will be Steam.

Epic has literally no benefits over steam... you are already having to use steam forums to ask this question as epic doesn't have game specific forums.

The big deal is that Epic is simply terrible as a launcher and as a digital distribution platform.
Epic's major 1 year exclusives are always bestsellers... but on Steam.
Epic's servers are worse even than mentioned by You EA App, Ubisoft Connect or GoG.
Epic is light years behind Steam and will remain like that since the only reason they're still not on sale is Fortnite.

I mean, every major release on steam has a tendency to, well, take down steam. Cyberpunk 2077 is a great example; the servers struggled hard to handle the mass of people and ended up being very janky for a few hours. I have no clue if this game has as massive of a following and interest, but nevertheless I do think they'll struggle at least a little.
