Separating the art from the artist

It is useful to be able to separate the art from the artist. I disagree with LOADS of things J.K.Rowling believes, but not for a moment do I think that her art isn't magnificent. If I boycotted everyone with whom I disagreed on anything, I'd probably be staving to death, naked in a ditch somewhere.

J.K.Rowling has NOT caused any harm by voicing her thoughts. That is more fantasy than anything she has written. The rabid hatred spewed in her and our direction on the other hand has indeed caused MASSIVE resentment towards those who campaign to shut down the sources of art we love, and THAT does indeed cause harm and hatred towards trans people.

couldnt said it better. I disagree with stuff JK Rowling has said.. but doesnt mean every game developer or every cast member of the films also agrees. -- you can hate a person but still love the fantasy of magic etc

No seriously if we held entire franchises, series, etc. accountable because of a single person's individual takes we would be way more isolated than we already are.

If your opinion on a series drastically changes because a single person who worked on it turned out to be racist, homophobic, transphobic, or whatever other buzzword that can be thrown out there, then you are showing that you can be easily swayed and manipulated.

If we're talking front cover type of stuff, sure, but a producer or writer? I mean, then we'd have to get rid of Dirk Gently and I will go down fighting.

I couldn't agree more, thank you. But mods should be more active here, it's super annoying if you wanna talk about the game just for some manchilds insulting you because you don't fight their childish culture war literally nobody care about outside of their bubble.

China and the Middle East in prison and/or kill gay people and yet Disney, Amazon, and other companies can do business with them. The same people telling you not to buy this game because of Rowling are probably subscribed to Disney+ and Amazon Prime.

I absolutely agree. Harry Potter as a franchise is much bigger than the lady who wrote it. And I can separate her views from the franchise, but it is becoming more difficult with the rightwing community that has adopted the franchise. That is becoming bigger and bigger and is harder to ignore than just one person.

It is a sad thing a fun fantasy world is becoming a platform for extreme conservative views.

I'll wait a bit to see if the fanaticism dies down.

Nah, I'm pretty sure most of they love of J.K. Rowling is just trolling and to fuel their childish culture war. If the transcommunity stop being their enemy, I'm pretty sure they going back to hating her.

If she wasn't a TERF, the same people that now defend her would probably hate her because HP is woke propaganda in their eyes because it tell you that fascism is bad and genocide others because they aren't pure breed is bad.

Edit: And because Dumbledore is gay and Hermione is a strong female character.


I bet that most of them gonna cry again when the game release because you can choice only body types instead of a gender or because the game has any message in it that tell you racism ist bad.

Complaining about that is legit though because us humans aren't type 1 of 2. We are Male or Female. It would be no different if choosing a character's race you were given type A,B,C,D,E, or F.

I agree with loads JK Rowling says. I think shes very brave to be going against the trend and its actually refreshing.
