Will you wear S.P.E.W. with pride?
The way that I see house elves in the books, so far, is they are highly intelligent pets. The most devastating thing that you can do is abandon your pet. Well, unless you are the Malfoy family that abuses their house elf so much that he desires to be free of them (a rare thing indeed.) I am halfway through the fourth book so far.

Hermione, not fully grasping the concept of a house elf, has spread S.P.E.W. about and asking for a small payment to put S.P.E.W. on peoples robes or jackets. However, is she right in this and there is more than meets the eye (or that I have read thus far.)

Would you adorn S.P.E.W. in a show of support for Hermione, or would you reason that they are pets that desire their situation, as long as their master (witch and/or wizard) treats them right?

S.P.E.W. or not to S.P.E.W?

I'd like a house elf pet to scrub the floors, clean my shoes and polish them, laundry my clothes, make me dinner...
Well, you just freed your house elf, giving them your laundry to do.

I'd like a house elf to hang out with mostly they seem like they'd be fun.
Completely agree. You can see that the many other instances of house elves in Harry Potter are happy. Winky actually conversed with her master and had a deal of input on her situation. It is sad to see how the movies only showed Dobby, as much as Dobby is a big part of the books.

I would personally enjoy having the company of a cool little house elf. That said, I would definitely be a little bit like Luna Lovegood in the wizarding world. I am sure that my behavior not be the norm.

Hopefully we can cast crucio on house elves and mudbloods without having to choose the evil pathway because i resent the idea that that is an evil thing to do. also my character is going to make sure everyone dresses appropriately and uses the appropriate dormitory.

Hermione is now attempting to force freedom on the house elves in Hogwarts, by making hats for them. While I am definitely for the idea of giving protections to the care and handling of house elves, I think this is definitely one of those wild youth thoughts that did not think things completely through.

Regardless, I am thinking this will not work, as it has to be the master that presents the clothing is how I understand it. I have not yet made it far enough to see her impact, but definitely interesting.

i definitely don't think she'd be able to free them, even if they DID pick up a hat. She isn't their master, otherwise any student wanting to cause trouble could free house elves

dobby said in the books that they stopped cleaning Gryffindor tower because they found it insulting, i don't think she freed a single one, they just despised what she was trying to do on principle

Interesting. I can understand though. I appreciated being a part of a service job, helping others. I would never have wanted those experiences taken from me, in helping others. If properly treated, service jobs, though the pay is often below poverty levels, are rewarding in a way more than wealth.

I just think house elves have a different look on life they enjoy being told what to do and how to live their lives.. Some what like Ants or Termites i guess.

There is definitely a difference in perspective and mentality. Fascinating creatures. I hope to delve more into these additional points of lore, once I finish the Harry Potter books.
Spew doesnt exist yet this is well before that

does that mean elf slavery was allowed?
no because it's Hermione's creation, and I hate Hermione. I hate the actress that played her even more but that is neither here nor there

Indeed. You seem to miss the point of the conversation, however. This is more about a Harry Potter world philosophical discussion.

To most house elves, they do not consider it slavery. This is a misconception based on what happened to Dobby, who was abused by the Malfoy family.

I do not know her as a person, but she is fantastic in the movies of Harry Potter. I do not know of any other movies that she is in though. As such, I do not understand the animosity.

you don't have to, it's my animosity. Also, why are you focusing on just the actress, I only mentioned her as an aside. I don't like the character as well

Because you said "I hate the actress that played her even more"
I am not sure what her name is, but I thought she did a great job as Hermione.
Dobby is a sock-aholic.

I won't wear it because I don't see any issue with employing a house elf to do things for me, ofcourse I won't keep one as a slave, I will give it proper respect and also payment, but I see nothing evil about employing a house elf as a servant.

things get a lot more iffy if you consider House Elves mentality as their culture. Trying to take away and white wash their culture and sense of identity isn't any better than basically enslaving them either, it's a very fine line to walk

But i never liked how Hermione treated SPEW. She didn't CARE what house elves wanted, she was convinced SHE knew what was best for them, and they didn't actually know what they wanted or how they felt. She was as nasty to house elves as any of the masters she ranted against, because she didn't see them as creatures with their own opinions and feelings, and insisted that only she, and she alone, knew what was best for them

Considering this game takes place in the 1800s, I am pretty sure having a house elf as a servant was a norm.
