Will you wear S.P.E.W. with pride?
The way that I see house elves in the books, so far, is they are highly intelligent pets. The most devastating thing that you can do is abandon your pet. Well, unless you are the Malfoy family that abuses their house elf so much that he desires to be free of them (a rare thing indeed.) I am halfway through the fourth book so far.

Hermione, not fully grasping the concept of a house elf, has spread S.P.E.W. about and asking for a small payment to put S.P.E.W. on peoples robes or jackets. However, is she right in this and there is more than meets the eye (or that I have read thus far.)

Would you adorn S.P.E.W. in a show of support for Hermione, or would you reason that they are pets that desire their situation, as long as their master (witch and/or wizard) treats them right?

S.P.E.W. or not to S.P.E.W?

House elves are pets in 1890.

There is no S.P.E.W.

And also, even if there was? Why would you dismiss the value of having a race of magical slaves at your beck and call?

That's like a housewife in the 1960's being like "We denounce washing machines and microwave ovens!"

It's just not even going to be a thing at all. They would only ever have unanimous support if house elves themselves were allowed to vote.

Because slavery is usually bad, and tends to cause violent uprisings?

You could perhaps make a case where the slaves are happy that they're enslaved, due to some personality quirk or due to it being more dangerous on their own, but that's still a problematic argument due to potential coercion or indoctrination.

That's not really a valid analogy, since washing machines and ovens aren't sentients.

And arguing that slave masters would not vote to abolish slavery when the slaves themselves are not allowed to vote is also not really a valid argument to retain slavery.

The line between occupation and slavery is constantly moving. It comes down to ensuring our bias and perspectives do not judge before fully understanding. In many ways, some countries see Americans as slaves, who live in constant debt and little benefits. Even looking at how the cost, time off or lack there of, and treatment of a family having a baby.

It is easy to judge another's situation, when you do not have to know everything involved.

As a BDSM sub I don’t think house elves want rights

House Elves are either pets or indentured servants during the 1800s and up to well into the 2000s, though things have improved a bit thanks to Hermione. But that is not a thing in this game - it's too early in the timeframe.
Which a lot of people are way too dense to understand.
I better get a jackhammer and start drilling into those damned concrete heads...

This is something that I see often expressed through the books. Dobby was abused severely, so it was a unique situation. Winky, for instance, even talked of dealings of the house with Mr. Crouch. Winky was an example of a well treated house elf, but in a bad situation non the less.

Indeed. I still enjoy discussing the Hotter Parry books, even though they occurred 100 years later. The lore is still relevant, but S.P.E.W. is not during the time of our Hogwarts experience that is coming.

Could be! The headmaster for Hogwarts Legacy was Slytherin, as per Sirius's conversation with Harry in Book 5.

This is why the game shouldn't have been a prequel, so many things we want to see in game but they haven't happened yet.

The world building is superb from the books. Coming in from prior to the stories will be a blank slate for characterization with a pre-made detailed world. I do not see this as a downside.

Absolutely.

Hermione is now attempting to force freedom on the house elves in Hogwarts, by making hats for them. While I am definitely for the idea of giving protections to the care and handling of house elves, I think this is definitely one of those wild youth thoughts that did not think things completely through.

Regardless, I am thinking this will not work, as it has to be the master that presents the clothing is how I understand it. I have not yet made it far enough to see her impact, but definitely interesting.

I'd like a house elf pet to scrub the floors, clean my shoes and polish them, laundry my clothes, make me dinner...

I'd like a house elf to hang out with mostly they seem like they'd be fun.

Hopefully we can cast crucio on house elves and mudbloods without having to choose the evil pathway because i resent the idea that that is an evil thing to do. also my character is going to make sure everyone dresses appropriately and uses the appropriate dormitory.
