No Whomping Willow?
I'm only moderately disappointed. I guess we couldn't have everything in the first game in the series.

The tree was planted quite a bit later than when this game takes place, so it wouldn't make sense to have it there.

The whomping willow was planted during Lupins first year at hogwarts, which I think was the 80s, which would make this game about 90 years too early to include it.

Google says Lupins years at hogwarts was 71-78, so, 80 years too early!

Harry was born 1980. So Lupin (and the others in his age group) went to Hogwarts in the 70s.

Would be cool if they threw in a different whomping willow that is hiding some loot as according to the lore, they are used to hide things. I could see this as a sidequest and perhpas you harvest a seed for the tree to be planted for Lupin. Things like that will help cement the world into being ready for the books. The more they do like that, it will make you feel like you learned something that didn't seem worth mentioning in the books but you could be placed as a savior for some character in the future whose circumstances weren't examined too closely.

The whomping willow was planted to protect Remus Lupin when he was a student and so he could transform away from others.

Yes that's correct. They planted the Whomping Willow as an entrace to the tunnel that leads to the Shrieking Shack where Lupin would transform into his werewolf form on full moons. That's why the willow beats everyone that gets close to conseal the entrance to the tunnel. And the Shrieking Shack is known to be haunted cause people heard Lupin's screams (wolf howling). Hope this helps :)

That tree was not planted on the grounds until Lupin came to school, which took place in the 1970s. Legacy takes place in the 1890s, so that tree wouldn't be planted on the grounds for at least another 80 years.

I love that whole story about the marauders! Their adventures outside of the grounds as animals :)
