Now that's not why this drama is happening, that's just important background context.
What's happened here is like a "Woke civil war"
JK Rowling decided to stick to her choices with her first acceptance of the SJW religion, so she stays strongly on the feminism and strongly on the "gay above all" support.
Here's the thing though, the religion has evolved in the last decade, it's dominating force is now transexual, the masses of SJWs did accept the trans-testament, but JK Rowling did not, she stayed strong in her support of 2010's feminism and homosexuality, which at the time, did not deny biological fact, which means the audience she built by ret-conning her character gay and preaching about female superiority now hate her.
The modern version of an SJW cultist hates JK Rowling more than they hate the average white man, because she's a "traitor" in their eyes.
TL:DR - The SJW cult is a religion, based not only in faith, but in the active and proud denial of the reality in front of them. JK Rowling accepted phase 1 of the gospel but has denied the trans-testament.
It's similar to how an extremist islamist hates muslim converts more than they hate christians, a christian is just an enemy, but a convert is a traitor,
This comment itself is false and backwards. It's the left side that does this while forcing people to be drones of society. Comply with fake politics or perish. Look at Canada, it's being turned into a Dictatorship and we are being peer pressured into it while great minds flee to other nations. A brain drain. The left want us to eat insects, and only insects; wants us to live on the street, and just make everything miserable.
"OH, it's for your health and safety" as people also collapse on the ground from injections. Or worse, die. Yes, even from other medications also. And yes, we all react differently. The problem is the left are painfully forceful even resorting bending the rules to silence people, especially with Emergency act.
Then you have false genders gate keeping people. It's all nasty and a farce. Then you look at how AI is being developed fearing the worst in Sci fi scale.
Humans aren't sea horses. Not yet, anyways. Humans are only male and female with sexual influences going both ways. Everything else is just child's play.
As for Hogwarts Legecy, people simply want escapism. If it means they're not told they're a piece of crap, or told "all males must die" people will hide in that game.

This is also true. JK likely just got paid royalties to use the license and that's it. So if sales were poor due to a successful boycott the only people hurt would be the developers. The publisher, WB, would take a financial hit and then they'd likely just downsize or dissolve the studio entirely to recuperate losses. WB moves on and gets richer and hardworking devs lose their jobs. They don't deserve that because the creator is acting like a looney toon.
Also, additionally, I'm not letting it stop me from enjoying something. I was just answering OP's question. I personally don't care about the HP series and never will. My only interest in this game is the discourse online.
Considering the game isn't out, I wouldn't be surprised if its revealed that there is a minor throw away character that happens to be non-binary or something.
Personally I'll be getting this game but ignoring reviews from games 'journalists' who will use the opportunity to get on their political soapbox once more. Twitter, reddit and resetera will be in a meltdown and the real world will just enjoy this game, regardless of what Brianna Wu cries about.

Nearly every civil right you enjoy is due to the left.
If by forced to be drones, you mean act like humans toward each other, then sure. But the right supports fascism, averting rule of law, and generally has no standards that aren't flexible based on who is suffering or wronged.
As opposed to the right, which straight up murder people by the boatload over politics. Mass shootings, driving cars into protesters the KKK, religious indoctrination, churches covering up murder and rape, pray the gay away. Setting your own shoes on fire to spite Nike for backing anti-racist protest, breaking your own coffee makers to protest Fox losing ads. The religious right is far more egregious. The right wants to abolish the division of church and state, the literal reason why the United States exists as it does.
The right support police corruption when it targets others. Then flies off the handle when they are told to stay home during a plague. They ARE the drones you talk about. Until they are mildly inconvenienced or a mad man tells them to kill the VP.
If the right had their way every school would be churning out hyper patriotic, hyper religious drones.
Someone called people who were given the gender female at birth "People who Menstruate." So that they could differentiate them from people who were given the gender male at birth who have transitioned to women.
JK Rowling took issue with this and said "People who Menstruate" are called women.
This caused a uproar from the LGBTQ+ community because if a person wants to be a woman, they are just that. A woman. Or man for that matter.
JK Rowling didn't like the further qualification of women assigned female at birth.
This was important to both groups because of Bathroom regulation. People assigned male at birth that have transitioned to women or just identify as women would like to use the female restrooms.
JK Rowling, a victim of sexual assault, does not want that.
To fight her opinion, they attack her.
Only one person here is actively being persecuted. JK Rowling is not roaming the country side being hateful. She's not boycotting businesses or calling people names.
This is very good post. As much as I support trans people, the case of Jo Rowling is being blown so far out of proportion. People forget that she was the victim of sex assault. She understands how crappy humans can be first hand. The idea of people abusing transsexualism is not only possible it's very probable. People have faked worse to achieve less. but some people lack nuance. They here the slightest bit of hesitation and apply the hate label. I'm super liberal, and even I can see the absurd mob mentality among many of my same leanings.
