which means it's effectively 720p, because DLLS / FSR quality at 1080 renders the game at 720p.

I mean for ♥♥♥♥ sake - this game is coming out on previous gen consoles, garbage like vanilla Xbox One - so how on earth on PC even minimum is GTX 1070 (which is like 2x faster than XB One) and that's for 1080p with DLSS / FSR on performance setting, so jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ (it's from 540p)...

How with everyone ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about Gotham Knights didn't notice this looks to be far worse?

To be fair the GTX 10 series will be 6-7 years old by the time the games launches. As awesome as the 10 series is, there will come the time they become the low end compared to newer hardware/software (which is pretty much now). Not to mention newer games that are introducing new tech that require more processing power/driver support that the 10 series and older may or may not work with.

I know everyone wants to hold onto their rigs as long as they can before spending money to upgrade, but there comes the point it is no longer feasible for companies to continue support for older hardware even if they wanted to. At that point you have accept worse performance and putting some elbow grease into the in-game settings to get the best performance for your rig. Your results may vary depending on how much older your hardware is.

You have to remember that we PC users use all sorts of different components compared to the one size fits all approach consoles use for their hardware. You also have to remember that not all games will run great on last gen consoles (e.g: Cyberpunk 2077). Also games may be restricted performance wise to make them work on last gen consoles (e.g: FPS limits).

Gotham Knights is not available to last gen consoles and the hardware requirements are on par with current gen consoles.

Let's just hope they optimize the game well. The easy route for a developer these days is to rely on upscaling technologies like dlss and fsr to do all the work. Fingers crossed for those of us that have an average/low spec pc.

The 780Ti and 980Ti were flagship cards that got rendered pretty much obsolete once game tech advanced enough and driver support fell off (The 1080Ti is no different). Not to mention 1080p 60 in one game is different from another (e.g: Stardew Valley vs. Cyberpunk 2077). Sure you can run 1080p 60 (or higher) in both Stardew Valley and Cyberpunk 2077, but I can tell you with ease that your GPU is working a lot harder to achieve the same performance levels in Cyberpunk.

Game tech has advanced 6 years from when the GTX 10 series launched and while the 1080Ti is still an impressive GPU, it has to work even harder in newer high end games to achieve the same level of graphics and FPS. Eventually you have to accept that a GPU is no longer capable of giving you the same quality of performance it used to at launch (to include flagships GPU's).

Also your example of comparing a 1080Ti to a 2070S/3060 is not a good one for your argument as the 2070S/3060 costs half (or even less) as much as a 1080Ti and gives you similar performance even though they are lower tier GPU's per your source. Also relative performance is just on paper and while it gives you a rough idea it should not be an end all be all due to game to game performance swings and other potential factors.

In the end the discussion we are having today has happened before in the past when 980Ti became the "Recommended" or "Minimum" spec GPU for high end games and everyone complained. It is just now the 1080Ti's turn.

Plague Tale Requiem is demanding game but at least it's one of the best looking games to date. But when games look dated and last gen, yet have some BS system requirement - it's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ yikes. 10xx series was a time where raster performance was all that mattered. Those days are long gone.

Modern gpu has hardware upscaling, video encoding/decoding, hardware raytracing and other compute engine separate from raster performance. Vastly different in how the current gpus and games are built in comparison. And the tech put into these systems has evolved significantly.

Also understand, minimum recommended spec is only a standard that a developer/publisher has tested their game on and promises to work. It doesnt mean a 10xx series card cant play the game, it might play the game fantastic or even better than recommended minimum spec. But it means the developers are not spending a dime to troubleshoot and promise compatibility on hardware more than half a decade old.

New games are released and tested against modern technology relevant to their release. 10xx series cards are not manufactured anymore. Imagine thinking a company should release a product and say it requires at minimum that you use a product that is out of production and discontinued.

So im glad people like OP can appreciate a good graphics card, but you dont know how to operate a business.
