Taiwan
Nobody sells perfect world games in Taiwan. Perfect world games has Taiwan on their list of countries where you can't play their games from. I'm going to take a stab in the dark and assume that PWG is confusing Taiwan with China. They should really not show those games on the store here. Thankfully I found this out with a F2P game, if I had actually paid for this kind of garbage from a game developer I'd be unhappy to say the least.

South Korea is restricted as well. I wish also that Perfect World would put the "OOPS SORRY-NOT IN YOUR REGION" notice. Why don't they put these notices like SEGA in Asia as well as other region restricted notices.

I'm in Korea as well. Sometimes Steam will have games advertised that you can't actually get here. On the other hand, sometimes you can get things through Gamersgate and then connect them to your Steam account. I got a couple of games that way that Steam's Korean region did not otherwise offer. I don't know about Star Trek as I haven't tried to play it yet.

Hello from Russia. We have same problems with this game.

Is there a way to get around this? I'm not sure, but before I used to play here in Taiwan. As an avid Star Trek fan who wants to continue his campaign (especially since they recently gave me a promo code that I apparently can't even put in because I'm in Taiwan), I am very disappointed that I can't even log into my Perfect World account.

Why are they banning your countries??
Skorne Tet'Zu 2015 年 11 月 14 日 下午 5:41
It's not a 'Monopoly' not to sell to someone...it's a Monoploy being the 'Only' ones to sell. On top of which, Taiwan is considered an Economically strong nation (their economy ranks above 30 in the world)... as is Russia... and I'm sure Korea can hold their own as well. They all have 'Dumb' Rich Kids willing to spend money on this game.

To be honest... I'm just curious; if there's money to be made, why not make?

It could be the countries saying no the game, or PWE. Some countries have restrictions on certain games due to their content. For example, I read somewhere that the Tropico games are banned in some countries because they have "revolution" as a game concept. They are afraid their citizenz/subjects might get ideas and try to overthrow them.

Let's not forget that Australia forced Valve to release a completely separate version of Left 4 Dead 2; the only difference was that there were no zombie cops in The Parish because their government didn't want its citizens to be shooting cops, zombies or otherwise.

As for why PWE banned STO, I'm not entirely sure. One guess for me is that the actual Star Trek franchise doesn't exist here. Paramount Studios doesn't have any contracts for subbing any series in Chinese (believe me, I checked because my wife can't quite understand all their technobabble), and other than the recent films (which the people here thought were mediocre at best, though for good reason, in my honest opinion), there isn't any Star Trek anything here. So a possible reason they banned it was because they didn't think enough people would play and/or buy it. It's a fair assumption, considering the actual game itself isn't the best MMORPG on the international market, despite its quite generous f2p aspects compared to other games. I guess I am saying that they didn't want to open and maintain servers for a country that is basically turned off to the entire concept. I certainly don't like it, but it makes sense.

Yeah except I could easily play (and have played other games) on American servers or European servers with no problems. Forcing the game out of a specific market can only ever be a poorly considered attempt to leave options open for a half-assed localized release if someone comes knocking who's willing to do 90% of the work in localizing.

TL;DR definitely a filthy cash-grab by a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ company.

No, that's true. I definitely agree with that. And I am pissed off by it. Normally I don't often play STO. But I received an email from PWE that gave me a whole bunch of free stuff and when I tried to log in to claim it, I was told that I couldn't even log in. They dangled something in front of me and then yanked it away. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Yeah it's the incompetence heaped on top of greed that really drives the point home.

No, they completely block service to 10 countries now. I just checked by downloading their ARC client. They noted the exact countries they deny service to. To be perfectly honest I kinda expected this from PWE. These idiots have the award for most banned players. Seriously, back when I played Neverwinter if there was a problem and you tried to contact them about it they would threaten to freeze your account. I don't think it's greed that's so much the problem as it is them not wanting to service people. More countries = more work.
