New player in need of some help

Hi all, so i started the game yersterday looked good so far played about 10 episode missions wich gave me a new rank to have more fun, then i discoreved i need 15k purple crystals to get a new ship. Now i ask HOW?!

Theres another way to get new ships besides buying with purple crystals and cash?

There are a couple of special cases where you can get/earn some ships as well. The Temporal Ambassador mission will net you a free, very well-rounded, level 30 ship when you complete it. There are also special events like Summer and Winter events where you can get a very nice ship if you participate enough in the event.

you shouldnt need dilithium (purple crystal) to buy new ships. The game will give you 1 free ship for each 10 level you gain. So you will be getting 4 new ships throughout the game. (unfortunately u have to use real money to buy level 50's ships)

There is also a free ship u can get when u do the Ambassador mission as Szeron mentioned.

Really? I was like oh well time to get bored farming purple things everyday. I dropped the game after i knew i need to farm to get a good ship after getting done with the leveling.

Do you realy need TOP ship to have fun and play game? Free ships are enough to enjoy playing... and with time you get the needed crystals (if you realy want to buy that ship).

What is wrong with farming for good stuff.... ?

Well, when i say a good ship its usually a higher tier from what im using. I dont care if the ship cant do jack if i liked the look of it u can be sure i'd love to get it. Actually i loved some of the escort ships im glad i picked the tac role.

Started playing STO cuz in some aspects it was a different MMO from my standpoint, ground missions + ship fights its awesome. I'm still overwhelmed by the huge amount of detail to get used to so pardon me if i somehow call things a total BS.

Well regarded for the farming issue is im already tired of this mechanic every MMO has something related to it. Its bearable but i dont see myself doing it often, i was just suffocated because i forethought i needed to farm the purple crystal to get a chance of changing my first ship.

I get along fine with the free ships - I'm quite happy with my Star Cruiser. It's not really good enough to fight in serious PvP matches but for friendly games with my fleet it's perfectly fine, and is quite good in STF missions.
