Unable to open Steam Overlay in STO

Unable to get access to the Steam Overlay while STO is open.

my version was downloaded through Steam - checked the application setting in library and its enabled - graphics drivers are nice and up to date not sure what else i can try.

I've attempted to open in 'Run as Admin' and compatability mode - no joy.

Also to note - All my other Steam game overlays are working with no issue

The game is not supported for this. you can run the game without steam. you only bought the right to download the game the first time from steam. sto doesnt see steam overlay. This is not really a steam game as you get same files from the mmo site.

I can understand that entirely but 4 of my friends i play with on STO (Real life friends) can access it without issue while in STO so... whats that about.

Surely you can tab to steam chat without having to tab out of the entire game if my friends are able to do it

They are also able to take screen shots using the steam screen shot key and upload to their profiles on steam, neither screenshot or steam overlay work for me and it does for them so don't think your comment really holds any value here.

I run mine in a maximised window mode, dont see how that would make a difference but worth a try.
When i ALT+TAB then it doesn't minimize the game but the Steam Overlay (Shift+tab) works and always has done.
The only other thing to try is delete local content and try reinstalling :-S

Bei mir funktioniert es auch problemlos mit dem Fullscreen Mode

It doesn't work for me either but I have the non-Steam version. I can create a non-Steam game shortcut to STO inside Steam, and the overlay usually works for other non-Steam games that are launched inside Steam in this way, but the problem is that the shortcut launches the STO launcher and not the game itself. The Steam Overlay is loaded when the launcher is opened (though you can't see it because it only works for OpenGL/Direct3D programs, which the launcher isn't), but it shuts down when the launcher launches the actual game. It'd be nice if there was a way around this.

I was also unable to take screenshots through Steam. I think what fixed it for me was to launch the game through the library and not by my desktop shortcut. Currently using maximized windows mode.

It works fine. Make sure you are using full screen rather then fullscreen-window and try switching between DX11 and DX9
