Nobody uses the chat anymore?
Really ticks me off so bad nobody bothers to use the chat button and chat, i am hard of hearing and i have some other gamers who are deaf and play this. It bugs me the fact everyone is using mics. Nobody would bother to talk on the chat. People are just plain rude without any assitance.

I've noticed very little chatter over the chat myself. By default my chat box was minimized with no indication of incoming messages. Maybe this is adding to the lack of chatter. (Just a suggestion; you shouldn't take it so personal. How are people being rude by not using chat?)

yea i hate people who don't use chat or even read it

it is rude. the fac that you ask something and nobody reads what you say or ask implies the fact that you don't get an answer.. so this is rude, especialy if you're new in the game.
its just like the "cs, wow and all the old mmos" all over again.

Eh, I generally try to help people out if they have questions or return greetings.

Thing is, the game is very solo-friendly and people tend to forget to pay attention to chat because they rarely use it. Additionally, this is an international game; there are people who may not be proficient with English. (There is a very sizeable number of German players in the community, for example.)

i can see that... it can be frustrating when ignored.

STO has always been a pretty quiet game. I can assure you that no one is using the built in voice chat, the lack of chat you are seeing is just that, a lack of anyone typing to each other.

That being said, there are definitely very active chat channels and communities out there if you know where to find them or otherwise choose to join up with them.

Join a fleet and you'll find some good chatter. Took me a few fleets to find a pretty social one.

Chat is overrated in STO. Imo, chat is only useful in a premade group, and then only voice-chat. I for one don't have the time to sit there and type stuff when someone is bombing me with all kinds of deadly weaponry. I used the chat a lot before the new gui, now, I can't really be bothered setting it up the way I had it before. It takes me 'too long' to do it :)

I pretty much just use it for joining up with people for missions/events. Takes too long to do it in combat.

I exclusively use text chat. I can't be bothered with voice chat, so I disable it in options. Kids with voice chat are the most annoyingly rude things video gaming has ever spawned.

What if I just want to play the game and don't want to worry about what other people are saying? Does that make me rude? Does it make me rude that I want to enjoy the game without having to check the chat box every five seconds? Just my opinion. I understand where you're coming from I just disagree with your statement that it's rude. Honestly the only thing I would use a chat box for is to explain quantum electrodynamics to people who don't even understand Newtonian physics. The emoticons they make are hilarious!

This, I don't use the chat either. I actually rarely play the game with people, I just do so when I have to, essentially group event, that I would gladly do with npc if it was possible. And I really don't see how that would make me rude. The game is extremely singleplayer oriented, STO is more MSingleplayerO than MMO. Is it rude to don't pay attention to people when you don't need to. Would you think people are rude for not lisening your conversations in, say a restaurant ?
