TOS build: best ground weapons
Obviously limiting myself to a TOS theme isn't the best in terms of performance at all. But I love TOS. I've been playing my Toon for 4 years and have stuck with the TOS theme for my build and would still like to stick with it unfortunately.

So, looking for what to pick for primary and secondary weaps: Wide beam TOS phaser is clearly better than Stun (♥♥♥♥), currently primary. Then there's the phaser sniper rifle (Kirk's big gun from the second pilot), as well as the special Nadion varient (night of the comet). Finally is some special advanced fleet assault weapon, don't know anything bout this and don't really care since wiki says its got lowest dps.
I also like the phaser compression pistol from SNW, max level/gold now.

So what should I throw in the primary secondary slot for those listed above? I'm currently running TOS Wide primary and SNW compression as secondary. Ironically my TOS phaser rifle sitting in my account band and collecting dust is 4 years old (oldest weap I have, mk 15 gold of course), and I'm kind of itching to use her again, but the dps of pistols is more attractive due to my build being DPS.
On a final note, my secondary weapon usually just sits there for an expose chance on a boss or high level enemy, it was suggested to me by a friend and others here to throw a Nakul rifle in that second spot for the extra crit chance.

Aoe powers and pets. 2 pets per Boffo so they're always popping 8 bullet stoppers while you're dropping big aoe blammo's on their heads and filling the screen with moar pets from your kits to pet wave the hell outta 'em and let the ground combat jank just jank off with itself you durty durty voyeur. Also wear a gun that completes some ground armor set but, y'know. keep your gun in your pants you durty durty ...

I carry a TOS Phaser rifle for most work on ground. Ground is not really that smooth for me because I come from first person shooters before there was a Star Trek Game. If the STO had ground the way we did it in FPS'es we would mow the whole field clear of enemies right quick.

I generally deploy engineer stuff while the teammates clear the field. Stick a wall where the bots like to gather and get stuck there while the teammates wipe it clean. Firing the big fat phaser rifle with it's huge bolts generally becomes noticable.

In crowd situations I would get the shotgun out. KAPUF. 8 gone. reload. KAPUF another 6 gone Reload.

If theres a enemy way up yonder I'll break out the 116 I think those are called. If you ever see the A model get it with both hands because you can hit enemies that your teammates can see with that one. (*Its probably removed from the game by now) BLAP! enemy gone.

Theres finally a minigun somewhere in the pile I crafted it for dakka a long time ago. It gets boring whirring the thing for a hour waiting for the enemy bot to accumulate the hit points needed to be defeated. I'll get back to it. As I said before STO ground is clumsy to a certain degree. If they built it so that all you have to do is point the damn weapon and hit the mouse button as you move like they do in the FPS's it will be pretty good. But no. You have to point, fiddle and this and that and finally get a round off. While a dozen get inside your personal space.

If you get in to crafting a TR-116B rifle that has 100% shield pen is pretty nice to lug around. My TOS engie with exploding drones, mortars, and the rifle does pretty nice. Bonus is this rifle isn't something the borg can adapt to so early on it'll drop them like it's hot for my TOS alt.
